Yes, Macs running Windows can run games; how well depends on the hardware and specific game.

Well, a desktop PC will always be more powerful than a notebook at the same cost, and yes, you can upgrade desktops while notebooks in general aren't really capable of being upgraded to the extent that desktops are.

If you don't need/want Mac OS X, and just want the best gaming machine, it will always be a desktop :).

Well, what you can do is get a MacBook, which will be cheaper, and use the money saved plus a little more to get a pretty nice desktop for gaming :).

Wait for the expected updated MacBook though! ;)

As Sam said, desktops are by far the best choice when looking for a gaming platform; their strength lies not only in their price-performance ratio, but also in the longevity of the product. A desktop can be a long-term gaming investment, where a laptop will only be a short-term gaming solution.

From what I understand, the OP already has a mbp, and is just asking if games will run on it. Telling him to return it and get a macbook, and a desktop is kinda silly.

Yes you can play games. Yes you can play COD4. Yes you can play many games that are out, and are coming out.

You might want to get the latest drivers for the 8600, because the default ones that bootcamp uses are pretty bad for performance.

Oh I'm sorry, I got thrown off by this post :p

Which made me think you didn't buy it yet. Well, it runs COD4 relatively fine as far as I know, newer games will be hard to tell. They will run, no doubt, but how well is another question. But yeah, you won't get the same performance as a desktop!

yeah it runs call of duty 4 fine. you can run it with high settings and better resolution than the consoles.

basically, any game that exists on both console and pc, you can expect to play just fine. the graphics power is comparable in your machine vs the consoles.

games like crysis... well... they run fine. just not at the highest settings or resolution. it works best at a lower resolution (about 640p - higher than CoD4 runs on the consoles anyway) and medium/high settings. of course, that category (games like crysis) pretty much includes only one game...
