I'm planning on buying a macbook in the US, but am going to live for a few years in another country. If anything happens, will I be able to use the 1 year AppleCare to get my macbook fixed in that country?

I believe AppleCare only provides international support for laptops, not for desktop machines, so, you would be fine. However, you need to check as the programme is offered in various flavours depending on the Apple device you want to buy it for. Check here, or better yet, confirm with the retailer before you take the plunge...

If you go to an apple store or call applecare (I'd do this) they can give you the appropriate phone number to contact in whatever country you are planning to visit.

    Applecare covers machines internationally.
