Go to eBay. you can get it right NOW for $204. Don't expect to see it any cheaper than that (for the MBP)

This does not happen. AppleCare is a warranty, which is sold at face value through major retailers and, as noted, goes substantially cheaper on Ebay.

Is it safe to buy AppleCare "code" from eBay? I am just wondering if Apple will honor the warranty...

I bought it once on Ebay. Registration with Apple was a breeze. Never had to use it though.

Best advice I can give for AppleCare on Ebay (I've done this 4 times now) is to be sure that the one you're buying is the most current version being sold through the Apple Store, which for the MacBook would now be MB587LL/A, and that it be sealed box - NOT where a code is emailed to you (sets you up for buying pirated or invalid codes)..... this is thus no different from buying it at the Apple Store directly. The current MBP code is MB588LL/A.

I'm a little averse to buying a warranty from an older AppleCare version, which can sometimes go cheaper, and then possibly having it not register or possibly be honored when I need it because it's old. You can simply search on Ebay for the AppleCare code and see what's available.
