I took my macbook to an apple store in san jose last saturday and they still havent fixed my computer. In fact, they told me they havent even begun. This is my fifth day without a computer which is absolutely frustrating...

Really? I've only ever had to have 2 macs repaired, my desktop G4 was fixed by a local mac certified shop. Simply because this was before the Apple Stores were around. About 5 days turnaround, not bad. My second was my White G3 iBook, had it sent into Apple, had it back same week.

So far no need to bring my new White Macbook in to an Apple Store, judging from your experience really hope I never have to.

Just a thought, but maybe they are growing too fast. Maybe they can't quite keep up with the demand. The more units you put out, the more potential you have for errors or defunct hardware, and now there may not be any more problems or issues per capita, but there is more 'capita', or people to deal with. Like they aren't expanding the 'infrastructure. Just my opinion. Haven't had a problem with mine that I can't fix.

Its unfortunate to hear but sadly is a fact of life. Unless properly anticipated and catered for, growth tends to result in shortfalls of one kind or another (service quality in this case).

When my MBP 2007 was in for repairs earlier this year it took roughly a week to get it fixed. Coming from the days of Dell, HP, and Sony machines, 1 week is super fast in my book.

my GF recently had her unibody whitebook fixed for some cracks in paint, new screen and turned out the logic board/keyboard needed replaced. Went to Applestore Thursday afternoon, left it and got it via next day air on Monday. Considering nearly everything except the HDD got replaced that was FAST!

Sure as hell beats my AW where it's taken 3 weeks to get a replacement system to me due to various issues. Not to mention before the exchange I was on the phone for some 4-5 hours.

you should ask.. its very unlike them to not tell you why its taking so long.

Usually it only takes that long if there is a backorder on the part they need.. so they simply cannot get the part to fix your machine...

They make you wait long enough so you will be tempted to just nuy a new one.

It was actually the second time i bought my computer to that apple store within a week. They fixed my cracking case on monday but the computer got insanely hot afterward, so i went again over the weekend. I dropped by two days ago and they told me they were super busy now that they didnt fix computer. And it is next to impossible to call that apple store since there is always "eight people ahead of you" no matter how long you wait.

I have owned quite a lot of apple's products and i have to say i am little disappointed this time.

8 people waiting to buy or waiting for repair service? That would make a big difference in purchasing choice or store choice.

I live in a small town(like 10,000 ppl small) so our nearest Apple 'dealer' is Best Buy. Apple store? Who knows. Prolly Atlanta or Jax. Anyway, the best comparison I can make is our phone service provider. Always busy, always slow. They have a monopoly if you want good service. Maybe that's the deal with Apple. I mean, who else you gonna take it to? Right?

I've had three repairs with our Macs (all nVidia). Two were depot repairs which took one week. One was repaired on the Premises. I dropped it off Saturday night and it was done on Tuesday morning. The two machines with the three repairs were the kids systems. We were able to get critical school files off the hard drive and onto another system with the firewire boot.

I have a spare Dell XPS system as my backup laptop which anyone else in the house is welcome to use if they need an extra machine for visiting presentations or if their system dies. We now have a spare 15 inch MacBook Pro as I just got my son a new Unibody MBP. If you're doing something critical on your computer, consider a backup strategy should your system need repairs, get lost or stolen. And have a good backup plan.

I just took a MBA in last week for apple care screen replacement and upper case.
They sent it out on Monday and i had it back in my hands the following Wednesday.
It was shipped via overnight air to Texas and back to Minnesota.
All this in under three days.

Part of Apple's business model is not catering directly for the customer :/

what does that even mean? Apples customer service ratings are always very very high.
