Apple sells you barely functioning macbooks which will break soon so you can go pay for repairs again :)

Apple authorized repair != the refurbished Macs you buy directly from the company.

The same warning can be extended to buying refurbished Dells, HPs, Lenovos, etc. Always stick to official channels when looking for such machines.

Hmm yes and no, with Dell often returned models that people where not satisfied with are re-sold after being refurbished. But they hardly fix motherboards at all for example. If it is broken they just throw it away and replace the part. Surprised to see that Apple actually tries to fix those boards.

Used cars have less wrong with them and crap like this is common on places like craigslist and eBay. Better off doing Hackentosh with a cheap Thinkpad or Precision instead at a much lower cost.

That is why Lenovo has been dead to me since almost everything after the T/W530 has been near if not complete ultrabook crap.

Yeah, I don't know why Lenovo cheapens their lineup like that. They have at least six similar 14" laptops, can we have at least one that isn't trying to chase mm for no real gain? We have some feeble attempts like the current T480, which squanders much of its size/volume with poor storage bay design. Despite its size, they also couldn't find the mm to prevent the keyboard from impressing onto the screen, nor could they find enough space to put actual function keys onto the laptop.

I know Lenovo was first to the touchbar nonsense, but with at least six similar 14" laptops, could we have at least one that isn't an ultrabook wannabe? They made an another insulting attempt last year with a very limited run of a singular "retro" model (with specs that were laughably outdated at launch). Just enough features to get away with saying "I told you so," when it inevitably failed. Lenovo can now falsely argue any attempts to compare this to actual retro Thinkpads is a "no true Scotsman" fallacy, in order to shut down any dissent against their preordained decision.

    All brands do that...

All the returned laptops are run through a bunch of tests, if they pass and there is no damage/scratches/dents/marks, they are sent to a facility that cleans and repacks them, and those are usually the models that are sold when there are promos/discounts, sometimes the same laptop follows this process a couple times before the "tests" finally discover/confirm some strange sporadic fail condition.

Warranty centres can't do anything related to board/component repair, those parts are swapped out for refurbed one, in EU those refurb centers are usually in Poland(cheap labour), and as expect its more of a butcher house than a repair center, but if the board power up and posts, ship it and swap it.

I have seen laptops that where made out of parts from other 5-6 ones...

I have seen phones sold in promos that had parts from 4 other phones, and it failed, and then it was a disgrace to put it back to working order, because it was an already discontinued model.

Nation wide retailers share a big part of the blame on this whole craptop fiesta.

Yeah but Apple does seem to replace components on PCB's on refurbished boards and that is what baffles me.

All other brands replace components on the PCB's, its just that warranty centers can't do it, only the region repair center can do it.

Sometimes when the deadline was already hit, I swapped ports, and once I swapped an eMMC, but it can only be done with express authorisation from the brand, if a warranty center is caught doing so they can lose the brand.

To be fair almost nobody buys thinkpad to play games on them or do anything else that requires a up to date and new GPU. They are meant to be business notebooks, where in most cases even an iGPU is more than enough.

Lol the Thinkpad 25 is a complete rip-off and is intended for Thinkpad fanboys who want to go old school with enough money to spare. Lenovo charges about $2000 for it and only offers a dual-core processor.

Does it include the P series models? I know that T/L/E series models have thermal issues, but don't know about the P series models.

it's fine once you repaste it

    really makes you think
