So I'm buying a white macbook tomorrow. It'd be great if you guys could post some things I should do when I first get it.

Return it and buy a PC? :D

From what I have heard Macs do not come with a lot of crap when you first get them like a lot of Windows PC's. So you do not have to do a clean install or anything.

Assuming you get 2GB's of RAM, I would say just turn it on and start enjoying it. Maybe look into Parallels to run your Windows games (old games like WC3 should run fine even in emulation). Or setup bootcamp.

If it's your first Mac maybe pick up a book on using it? Not a dummies book or anything, but maybe a tips book that will help you find some of the more hidden features etc.

You should read these two articles so you're used to OS X right away, if you haven't already:

    http://www.apple.com/support/switch101
    http://www.apple.com/support/mac101

    Also, calibrate your battery: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86284

    And install new Software Updates.

    And you're good to go.

You do know how to install applications on the Mac, right? Well anyways, for most applications you download, they come in a .dmg file. Open that file and a virtual drive comes up. A window will pop up and just drag the icon of that application to the Applications folder. Its installed! Then you can "eject" the virtual drive and delete the .dmg file.

For some applications, you will install them similar to the way InstallShield works in Windows.

If you have a good Airport driver from the start, do not run the Airport updates.

Airport driver updates are notorious for rendering the wireless capabilities of a Macbook useless.

Except Warcraft 3 runs fine on Mac OS X. You'll love it though, can't wait to hear of your first experience with it!

Even though there are ten billion macbook reviews I think I might write one just for the thrill of it! Especially since I won't have another opportunity to write a review on a laptop for quite a few years (assuming this laptop stays in good condition ^_^)

I have a question, how do you write a review for this forum? Can I use iWork '08 or what? Am I supposed to type the entire review in one of these message boxes?

Well, are you writing an official review or an unofficial one? Official being one for NotebookReview to publish on the front page, unofficial being just one you post up here sharing your thoughts. If you want to do an official review you have to contact the admins about it before writing your review.

I wrote my sticky in Word and I just copy and pasted it onto a forum post. Do some bullet editing, do some bold/underline/italics, etc. If you plan to write your review in Word or iWork or wherever, remember, to use for bolding, for underlining, etc. Highlighting a word and bolding it in a word processor won't show up as a bolded word on a forum post.

I don't know if it'll be official or unofficial the $40 or $60 is very tempting but I'm only 15 and I don't have PayPal account... I guess I'm going to go with an unofficial review, but I'm not sure I could use my bro's PayPal account

Last time I checked with Andrew, he didn't need any more official MacBook reviews...I don't know if he changed his mind now.
