I made a HD movie but the file size is 500mb. The quality is great.
I want to upload this video to my website, what is the best format you recommend to maintain the quality, make the file size not so large or make streaming easier for visitors of my website?

It depends if you want to keep the HD resolution or if you want to step down to 480p, 320p, or even the craptastic 240p. Most websites host mpeg-4 AVC video in an mpeg-4 container for HD content (and even some 480p) while 320p and 240p videos might use a different format and be in the Flash Video container.

The quality of the video you want to host all depends on the resolution you want to host it in and how much space you want to allocate for this. Really, 500MB isn't that much in this day and age. I know one website that hosts 480p videos at around 130MB and 720p videos at 450-550MB.

I agree! 500MB isn’t that much. I host a couple of lager videos on my website and I don't exceed my web space limit that I bought from ix webhosting. My site isn't slow in the least either. That was one of the things that I worried about - that the videos will end up taking up a lot of time to load. But everything works just fine.

If size is a problem keep a SD one on your site and put a HD one on youtube.

Best Codec is H264 for video and AAC for audio.
