There's two manufacturers of iPhone screens, and one of the screens looks notciably better than the other one. I've had my iPhone for six months and I think I finally have the nerve to try to exchange mine for the better screen. My friend's iPod Touch had a notciably better screen than my iPhone, and the iPhone is supposed to have a superior screen. There's a way to check which screen you have by calling *3001#12345#* (with the *) which enters the iPhone into "field mode" and choosing versions will tell you which LCD you have. The "5" is supposed to be quite a bit better than the "7" model screens, though some "7" screens are comparable to the "5"s.

Here's a brightness comparison between the two screens, with "7" on the left and the "5" on the right:

Also, although not a big deal, a grid is noticable on the "7" model screens and not on the "5" models. It's a lot more noticable if you set your iPhone to full brightness.

Any "7" LCD owners going to exchange their iPhone and try to get a "5" model? I think I will this weekend, I've knew about the different screens for a while, but I've never felt like going through the hassle of having to up a Genius Bar appointment and stuff.

    It's starting...this is a notebook forum :).
Anyways, it's normal to have some crappy screens in your 400$ toy (or whatever the price). It happens. Exchange it for a better model. But I guess not even 1% of the people notice it until these kind of threads appear.

I'm going to call Dell and have them exchange my iPhone screen for the Samsung LCD on the m1530.

Yeah, that would be great. Maybe add a 64GB SSD, right? :)

My first 2 iPhones (once replaced by applecare then sold) were 5s. The screen was unbelievably nice.

The 3 (bad phones, hoping for a better screen) i've had since then (2 8gb, 1 16gb) have 7 series. I don't believe they make the 5's anymore.

The quality on these three is absolutely horrible. Blacks look brownish negative. Whites look dull and yellow. Just absolutely horrible quality.

All in all no comparison. The first phones however did have poorer build quality (silver trim not flush etc.).

The screens really have gone VERY far downhill though.

I agree 100%. I just bought 2 new iPhones in the last 2 weeks. Both have 7-series screens, and both experience pseudo-negative blacks, and look not in the same league as my 5-series iPhone from September 2007. There's no question iPhone screen quality has been degraded.

The iPod Touch actually uses a worse screen than the iPhone.

Can't really get worse than the screen on the current iPhones.

I would assume they both use the same screen. Which is to say that BOTH the new iPod touch and iPhone screens are absolute drivel.
