well here is the situation. when i got my mbp a few days ago the store said they dont carry the cannon one, its no that they were sold out, they just didnt carry it. I wonder if other apple stores carry it? Have any of you purchased the Canon one from a apple store? So i ended up getting the HP one but havent opened it yet.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over this one. HP and Canon both build good printers.

My brother got an iMac last Tuesday, and he was not given a choice, they just brought out an hp. I really dislike hp, I think they add way too much bloated software when you install the printer, and I have always had driver issues. Just for reference, I had a low end hp all-in-one similar to the one Apple is giving for free, and the driver download for Windows was around 240MB!

I really like Canon, so if you can I would try to get the Canon.

I can't remember the last time I loaded a printer driver in Windows either.

For the hp I had, the driver was required to use the scanner. Normally, you will want to use the manufacturers driver because it is going to be more up to date and allow you full control and use of all of the features of the printer.

I go with the HP for Linux support personally. I absolutely despise their Windows drivers (which are ridiculously huge and bloated), but Linux has support for pretty much every HP printer/scanner/copier I've ever had out of the box.

The Canon pixma 4300 is what they had in the store, not the newer one they have online.
