Check out Dell's new 2209WA monitor. 22", from what I can see a much better screen than most 22" monitors as well. $299 plus shipping/handling!

What ever you choose, make sure your buddy has the right adapters. I can't be absolutely sure, but I believe my friend's 2007 white MacBook shipped without display adapters.

    Good luck!

The HP is a TN panel with 160deg viewing angles, the Dell is 178deg and it is an IPS monitor as well. IPS monitors have a MUCH better color reproduction and appearance than TN monitors do.

here's a suggestion: get him the 23" 1080p monitor from dell. its only slightly more expensive, but you get a higher resolution than the common 22" (1680x1050 vs. 1920x1080)

There are some pretty decent 22" monitors with WUXGA resolution for about 200€ ($130). Try Ilyama or Samsung.

For your consideration, I'd also suggest the AOC Envision G2219w1. The bezel is glossy piano black. It's received top honors from MaximumPC and good rankings from others for being a good quality, budget/mainstream monitor although it doesn't have as many of the multimedia connectivity frills as the Dells (lots of USB ports, etc).

I own one of these and can say the picture quality is top notch, resolution 1650x1050. Pricing in the mid-upper $200s.

I got a great ASUS 1080P HDMI monitor off newegg for around $210, and this thing is great! A 2/s response time, full HD, contrast is good for the price, it's an overall great monitor with no flickering at all. I would really recommend it. It's a 21.5 inch monitor, but I can't tell the difference between this and my brother's 22 inch. Here's the link to it on Newegg. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236051

One more inch, and you sacrifice the TN panel. Plus, the 23" screen is a 16:9 screen, and I'm boycotting anything less than 16:10.

I really haven't had a problem with bleeding at all. It has really been nice and even all throughout the monitor.

Yeah, that looks like a pretty good monitor and with the $50 coupon it would make that a killer deal for a 24 inch.

awesome then, with everyone helping me with this purchase, it really helps with making the decision on buying something that cost so much. Cause if he fails, i will always wonder maybe if i paid more, i could have gotten a better one. Thanks everyone that helped in this discussion, going to go purchase the monitor this weekend.

I think it'll look just fine, unless you don't like the 16:9 ratio in the first place. Mabye you could go to BestBuy, and look at the 16:9 screens there, to get a feel for what it's like compared to the MB. :)

yea 16:9 looks fine to me but i m just worry that the monitor wouldnt be able to adjust to the mac, cause the resolution on the monitor is wider than the macbook.

It is fine on my MB. I have the ASUS 21.5 inch monitor in 16:9, and no troubles here. It looks great, and doesn't look weird or unusual at all. Go ahead, it'll be fine. ;)
