My Asus laptops screen just went dead and I've decided to purchase a Macbook.

Most important thing for me is getting the best deal. I'd be happy with a MB or MBP. I don't need the graphics card, but if I had it I'd utilize it.

I only need this laptop to last me 2 years, then i'll sell it (with 1 year left on applecare).

Basically i'm look for the cheapest of either MB or MPB, new or refurbished. As long as I can tag on the applecare. Can anyone point me in the direction of the best deals right now? Thanks alot.

I'd say that apple still has pretty good deals for macbooks. Both refurbished and new.
Though youll have to order online if you want a refurbished one.

There are smaller retailers who specialize in apple products, but usually only have shops in big cities.

Also you can try futureshop/bestbuy, and if you know someone who works there you might be able to get a discount.

Future Shop and Best Buy will occasionally have $50, 100, 150 off Macs, so definitely keep an eye on those. Other than that, there's not too many options for Canada, unfortunately.

At that price, I would definitely get the black MacBook :). That cost is so close, and the only upgrade I would add to the black MacBook is 2 GB of RAM!

Well even if you could upgrade the ram on a refurb, dont do it through apple.

Buy the ram from canada computers, ncix or tigerdirect.

Apple overchrages on ram, and those sites/stores have it for fairly cheap and sometimes they have deals on.

Perfect, Thanks for letting me know! As for Applecare? Where would you recommend buying from online? Apparently I can get it for $217CA as a student.

Well make sure to go to www.apple.ca and prices and deals will be in CAD.
There might be a deal thats offered in US but not in Canada as well if you go to .com

As for applecare, I heard people were purchasing it off of ebay for cheap. Theres a thread on it here if you search for apple care and ebay you should be able to find it.

I've seen some good deals on Applecare from here:

    http://www.sigelectronics.com/Software?search=applecare

Here's some discounts I've found for the MBP's as well:
    UofA IBM MSRP
    MB133LL/A 1899 1931 2099
    MB134LL/A 2399 2391 2599
    MB166LL/A 2699 2667 2899

UofA refers to the U of A student discount. IBM is for IBM Employee Purchase Plan (see if you can find someone that works for IBM)...

I had the same situation in front of me, and I went with the refurb blackbook. The day after I purchased mine (a week or two ago) they disappeared from the retail site. Just wait for a few days, check regularly, and you'll likely see the same refurb.

Also, before buying RAM for the notebook wait until it arrives. Sometimes they come with extras - mine, for example, came with a single 1GB stick rather than the 2x512MB sticks I was expecting ;)

Again, same thing happened to me, I waited a few days and it was back...
    Hang in there!
