Is the serial number to the new machines just on the hard drive, or actually printed on the outside of the casing somewhere.

It seems kinda dumb to put it on the HD if so, cause if you change it, there goes that relative info (even though you can get it from OSX).

Im just wondering because work checks serial numbers every time we walk in/out with the laptop, so itll be a bigger PITA if I have to remove the battery cover every time.

    Thanks all.

Slightly quicker way to do it: Go to the Apple menu, click "About this Mac", click where it says the OS version twice: You get the Serial Number for the machine.

I guess you guys arent following.

Im not looking to turn the laptop on! The old MBP had the serial number inside the battery compartment, on the underside of the keyboard.

Is the serial number on the bottom outside of the laptop now? or is it printed on the HD on a label?

There is a serial number underneath the access panel on the front lip. You have to remove the battery to see it.
