well, almost all manufacturers(sager,hp,sony, toshiba, etc) have announced their new notebooks-any word from apple?
-
i was thinking the xact same thing there so busy with the iphone 3G they frgt lol =P
-
No words form apple yet
like Filza said they are busy with iPhone troubles -
When is apple gonna join the bandwagon???
Oh yeah, check it out, that's the new sony bz line of business notebooks, first thing that came to mind when I saw it was that it looked an awful lot like the mbp, not to bash sony or anything, besides apple, they are the only other company I buy notebooks from.
So I guess apple zealots who've been dreaming of a black mbp can buy that and hax0r it to run osx, not that I condone it or anything... lol -
maybe next month
-
Rumour over at engadget is that a Intel exc says that they will have quad core laptops in August... sounds like perfect timing for a mbp quad core to me.
a
-
I would say quad core is better for iMacs, but they just updated mbp and iMac not long ago.
-
Basically already a thread on this here
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=272782 -
Does apple ever announce them with out a event? It will be a couple months. Thet are not just going to say, "Hey, We got new Macbooks coming out", they don't do that.
-
-
@ seshan !
Yeap fair enough statement. Just had a re-look over the intel roadmaps. And although possible, its highly doubtful that there will be a quad core in a mbp in August.... unless apple has another "mac air" like cpu from intel which is off the maps.
a
ps although its only a matter of time before they go quad core... I'm betting that by this time next year the mbp will be quad core. -
Well the new Quads will fit into anything that can handle a 44 watt thermal envelope. That does count out the MB and MBP but it may not if apple can develop a better cooling system.

Even if they could fit the thermal envelop I doubt Apple include it even as a BTO since the high price means the volumes would be very low. An Extreme Edition chip typically cost $851 in bulk compared to the $530 price point of a top-of-the-line non-Extreme that Apple typically offers as a BTO.

If its a minor update, just to Montevina, it could happen next Tuesday. Mac updates always happen on Tuesdays. If its going to have a redesign too (which may be likely), then it'll probably have its own Special Event.
Apple never likes to be "with the rest of the crowd". They never announce products at the same time as the other manufacturers. They either do it earlier or later. They prefer having the press to themselves . -
Guys, I've merged two threads of the same subject together .
-
If i buy a macbook today can i return it next week if the new ones are released?

Mainstream quad cores probably won't really arrive until the 32nm process. In the meantime, Nehalem will bring back Hyperthreading, and a quad threaded dual core will likely offer most of the benefits of a quad core without the heat and power concerns. -
There has been some leaked reports from Intel but nothing concrete. And wether or not it will be needed or useful is a pretty user bias question. I remember when Quad core CPU were introduced in desktops and everyone said "That's just over kill and useless". Well what you says a lot of truth, but the more quad and dual cores are used the more programmers will begin to effectively use multi threaded applications. It's a slow natural progression and I think you will more quad core Laptops then most people would expect. More and more laptops are being used in traditional desktop environments. And that market place will only continue to grow. I work for a large Oil company and we have pretty much made away with office based desktops. The only real desktops n our office are mostly for the drafting and engineering and modeling applications. Now what if you could put that same application and run it on a quad core laptop. Mobility would be a welcomed commodity. -

Man have you seen the new sony Z line of notebooks (montevina)?! That is some competition for apple. If Apple doesnt offer something real good in these next macbooks i might consider a VAIO. Dedicated graphics (I know it wont happen with the MB), a half-good design (MB still wins), DDR3 RAM standard, and a pretty fair price. Please Apple do something soon or I might have to buy a VAIO for back to school
-
-
I know but ive used Windows for so long that I'm used to getting rid of bloatware, and I've dealt with HP customer service so im probably well equipped for Sony CS. I really want a redesigned macbook too, or at least a new something special that will set it apart from competition once again.
-
But in all seriousness, nobody but Apple really knows. It's all speculation at this point. Believe me, I'm anxiously waiting for a montevina macbook, and it's been a long wait. -
-
I think we'll see a redesign of the MB and MBP which, along with the fact that every man and his dog are releasing/announcing new notebooks and the 3G iPhone frenzy going on right now, means that we won't hear anything for a little while and it will be at an event.
I can't wait to see what a redesigned mbp will look like. The mbp has always set the standard for design and we won't be disappointed when the next one comes. (Warning: Selfishness just kicked in) I just hope it won't be so amazing that I have to update mine. -
When's the next scheduled event?
Ugh, i was gonna go buy a macbook tomorrow, but i guess i should wait.
It's killing me -
Yeah.. I'm waiting for GPU updates in either the iMac's or the MBP. Then once that happens I'm going to buy em! and mont should coincide with a GPU update i hope.... 8600 be damned!
-
I'm getting it for my desktop...the HD 4850. I couldn't stand the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT any more. This new set of ATI graphics cards looks like a winner! -
-
-
UGH, i hate waiting for my new toy.
-
3.0 lbs is where it's at! -
Hey Sam, do Radeon cards generally work better on Vista machines than NVidia one's do? Currently I have the 7600 GT (old, I know) on my desktop but it works quite nicely, even though I don't stress it much at all. (apologies for going off-topic).
now on topic: wasn't it around June 2007 when Apple released an update for the MBP (Santa Rosa chipset)? I don't think there was any special event for it, right? Maybe Montevina will be incorporated into the MB and MBP sometime this month. -
The Montevina Rollout for the Rest of 2008 -

-
the announcement will most likely be after the back-to-school student discount ends, which is in september if i'm not mistaken
-
-
This is what makes the wait so interesting, all the speculation and what ifs.
I hope you are right Sam, and that it's sometime this month or next month.
I would think something as minor as a montevina update (no complete case redesign) shouldn't be delayed too long. -
-
i almost hope it's just montevina so i don't have to wait any longer.
Just got back from the apple store, and they said that if a new refrsh comes along you can upgrade within 30 days of your purchase. If something like the ipod touch deal ends, you'll have to let that go or pay for the touch.
So if there is an update in the next month and a bit, and you buy your machine now, you should be fine. -
Really? 30 days? I always thought it was like 2 weeks, but that's great news if true. I figure I'll buy a new MBP on the last day of BTS if no update arrives before hand and cross my fingers for a new one in 30 days. Who's with me?
-
I asked the guy at the Apple store and he said 30 days, but promotions that end will have to be paid for. Like if you get the touch and in 30 days the ipod deal ends and they refresh the the machines, you can get the new one at the cost of the ipod touch. I assume you can return it as well.
-
-
Hmmm, but assuming that I've already paid for the touch out of pocket and received my rebate afterward, essentially I'm just trading in my MBP for a newer one right? I don't see how they could deny me a new one under that policy assuming I have the MBP and a valid receipt.
-
It's best that you ask just to make sure.
In 1 month the touch deal will still be on, and chances are, if the new MBP's are being released before school starts, then they will be released in august.
If anything i'd wait a week so u can know for sure that you get the machine with the touch. -
Yeah, I'll definitely call ahead of time to make sure. Wasn't planning on picking up a MBP until Sept anyways.
-
i'm more keen to see whether Apple decides to use the ATI Radeon HD 3600 or 3800 series of discreet graphics in their upcoming refresh of the MacBook Pro.
When is Apple releasing Montevina notebooks?
