I brought U-MBP 15 2.8Ghz Model Two days ago with the 14% UK student discount. I wanna buy SSD drive for the MBP & use 500GB Drive as a portable data traveller. Major problem is which is best for Mac? Can OSX take advantage of it? (I heard Vista is not optimised for SSD)

Can you guys recommend best 256 GB SSD drive for me. :)

Any SSD that is 2.5" will work. The whole "Mac Edition" is a marketing ploy to charge more money.

I've read excellent reviews on the Corsair Corsair CMFSSD-256GBG2D: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233085&Tpk=corsair 256

If you can do with a bit less space Intel has released the second generation of their renowned X25-M drives: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820167017

INTEL X25 SSD has the best performance, I transfered the one from one of my old windows laptop into my MBP 17 and it boots in arround 15 seconds from power button pressed

The best is the Intel Gen2 but if the OP wants 256+GB then right now, only option is Samsung and Indilinx controllers for good SSD and Samsung would be the best pick IMO because it's half the price of the Indilinx.

I have a OCZ Vertex in my 17" UMPB. The "Mac" version is just marketing. Just get the "regular" one. There's no difference. :) And my wife has one in her 15" UMBP. Zero issues in either system!

The second gen x-25m from Intel (not totally sure if it's available yet. If not it will be soon) should offer the best performance, but the Samsung in the Dell link that someone already posted is the biggest.

The Samsung is far from the biggest, but it is the cheapest (cost per GB) of the good (non Jmicron) SSDs.

Uh..Intel X25 is the best SSD you can get.

The samsung ssd is slower than the vertex/summit/intel. If he doesn't really care about that, then the samsung would be cheaper. You get what you pay for I guess.
