Wait, so when you're talking about OSX in real life you people say "OS Ten?" Oh crap! I've been saying OS "X" for all this time.

    ...properly referred to as "o-s-ten"...

    i laughed a while.

It comes naturally to us old schoolers that were accustomed to referring to the Mac OS as OS 7, 8, 9, etc.

Everyone (well, Steve Jobs does, so everyone, conform!!) calls it OS Ten, written OS X.

That's what I always find interesting, I listen to podcasts and I hear all these people calling themselves Mac experts and they keep referring to it as OS "Ex".

All I get is "Mac Owes Us Ten". Which I interpret "Mac" as in "buddy", and your buddy owes you ten bucks :p.

It's technically pronounced Mac OS-Ten, but I've always found it odd how they name the versions after that. They call it Mac OS X 10.4 or Mac OS X 10.5, which if you read it correctly, would be O-S-Ten-Ten-point-five... a little awkward.

Ya, I too find it funny when "experts" call it OS 'X". It is OS "ten". Why worry about saying OS X 10.5 when we have cool names like Jaguar, Tiger, and Leopard?

I say OSX, but I am quite aware of the "proper" name - it is just a habit really.

As a sidenote, "osten" = "the cheese" in Swedish :p

The big question is what are they going to call the OS X successor?

    XI?

Its assumed that Mac OS X's successor would be Mac OS 11, as before it was Mac OS 9...but OS X sounds so good Apple might just keep that name forever :p. OS 10.12

I think it would be hard for Apple to lose the X now, as it's kind of become a staple for them. But at some point, they're going to have to move on to avoid becoming too stagnant.

maybe they will pick a different letter.

    like.

    osV
    or
    osT
    osH
    osW

on second thought, they have a pretty good track record with just naming them by number.

i expect mac os11. but i will cry because that X is powerful. you know it has to be because its an X.
