First off shooting 4k for FaceBook is kinda silly, but lets just leave that alone...
Video editing and manipulating is not easy in ANY software. GoPro's software (I think, it was anyways) is available for free. For real work though you can't beat Final Cut Pro. But it comes with a big price tag.
Decide what direction you want to go. If it is for simple FaceBook video editing use, go cheap/free. If your truly wanting to learn real editing, Final Cut Pro. The learning curves are high though so best to decide out of the gate if possible. And use WELL documented software so you can look up how to do this or that on youtube. -
Final Cut Pro X all the way. Its incredibly powerful and it flies on macs. I am professional video editing and while I work primarily in Avid and Davinci Resolve, the speed of FCPX blows both of them out of the water on the same laptop. Go FCPX and you can go wrong, and if you are a student or have a student in your family, you will be able to get a great discount on the software bundle as well.

Also, If you don't want to shell out for the latest version FC, You can find previous versions on ebay for sensible money. I am currently loading my 2007 MacBook full of old software, and getting most of it for pennies on the dollar compared to new stuff.

Check out MPEG stream clip for converting it to a usable format
