I would like to have the next mbp high end model like this. X7900 2.8GHZ all black to represent the higher end model, either the 8700Gt or Ati 2600Xt blue ray drive. But hey I may just get lucky? What would you guys like to see in the low end middle end and high end models?

I'd be quite disappointed to see a MBP with any of those specs. Having any of those (except possibly the Blu-Ray drive) would mean that Apple refreshes the MBP relatively soon since those are all current or soon-to-be-current tech.

Since the next MBP refresh is estimated to be in Q1 2008, I'd at least hope to see a Penryn refresh: see http://www.pureoverclock.com/story1489.html. The X7900 Core 2 Extreme is still only Merom.

Similarly, I would hope that better GPUs would be out than the 8x00 series, but looking at the time frame, I doubt that's possible.

What I'm really looking forward to is the Q3 or Q4 2008 refresh of the MBP (the one after the upcoming refresh) with quad-core penryn processors and maybe a GPU in the GeForce 9 series (although the latter is still doubtful), and of course the always-possible design update.

mmm. Apple has kept the design since the G4, I doubt there'll be a design change...

    1. Upgrade of display: 1400x900 just isn´t the way to go...
    2. DVI-port will hopefully be replaced by an HDMI-port
    3. I really hope for more USB-ports; maybe 3, hopefully 4.
    4. "updated" housing; there are some weak points to come over finally.

I really, really hope that there will be an update with the release of Leopard, but - being realistically - I fear most people don´t see that happen.

what are some of the 'possible' hardware updates coming this month with leopard?

HDMI, T7700 standard, LED on the 1900x1200, possible 1650x1050 on the 15inch.

HDMI seems most likely out of that unlikely list. Be nice if they come out with a 1650x1050 LED display for the 15incher though.

[edit] I suppose a 2GB single Dimm ram and hard drive upgrades are more likely..........especially HDD. I would like to see 160GB 7200RPM hdd as standard on the macbook pros.

they have the money since the T7500 price drop.

Doubtful about HDMI port. There is the new VESA-compatible display port called 'Display Port.'

HDMI make more sense than a wildcard port though.

I highly doubt that. Wouldn´t single channel mode be a major performance issue?

dual channel is way over rated. I would rather have 3gb over 2 gb dual channel anyday.

Saves me having to sell the extra 1gb stick.

I absolutely don't 'know' what the heck dual channel is. Im not a geek.

But i do know i have 2gb in dual channel on my Desktop and i have used 3GB in a laptop. Performance was not an issue and i had an extra 1gb to play with before CS3 started using virtual memory[HDD], which is what really slows things down.

Im sure you can show me pie graphs showing why dual channel is faster and im sure it is. but if its a choice between 3gb of non dual channel and 2 gb of dual channel i choose 3gb.

People get carried away with performance figures even though it makes no difference in usage. for me quadcores give me a noticeable improvement in rendering times..........but dual channel, DDr3, 800mhz ram doesnt really show me any gains.

I have a real simple request, please add a media card reader.

Or you can buy an ExpressCard 5:1 Card Reader to handle that.

I guess I've just been so used to having media card readers on my notebooks that the idea of having to buy another external device just annoys me.

Yeh, i use CF and would have no use for a SD card reader. Would much rather see the space used for extra USB ports
