I was thinking my next computer will be a MacBook Pro should I find my G73 a bit too much for travel, but I don't plan on getting one for a few years. I wanted to hold off this time around because of a few issues that I didn't like, such as the hinges being weak/popping, and the only one I can afford is the baseline MBP 13", and I don't want to buy a new computer with a 4 year old processor. So I was wondering, any speculation on what will be in the base line MBP 13" in the coming months? Do you think they'll fix the hinges? Any rumors as to a design change in the coming months/years?

A new MacBook Air is what most people are speculating about for September.
I don't expect to see a new 13" MBP anytime soon, there are no indicators/rumors of any refresh creeping up.

i don't see the MBP 13 being updated unless they go to a whole new chassis. the reason the 13 inch didn't have an i3 is because apple couldn't fit both the integrated and dedicated graphics card in there.

I just got my macbook air in a few days ago. I think it's kind of unfair if Apple just releases the new one in a few weeks later. Maybe I need to speak with a Apple rep about it.

If I recall, if they do come out with an update like that within a set amount of time, they'll replace your unit with an updated unit.

Kaelang you mentioned weak hinges? This is the first time I hear about this problem with macbook pro's.
I expected their hinges to be really strong since its a +1k price product...

Thanks for letting me know that. I will have to notify to my local Apple rep after Steve Job announced the official news.

If they get out a 13.3in with 1440x900 resolution then I will get one. If not then I'll hold off longer.

I wouldn't worry. Unless they change it up a lot you probably won't notice and large difference.

Unless they move to a Core i3 or better (non-ULV) the only upgrade would be the 320m video card, but if yourre not doing any gaming, you probably wouldn't notice that change either. So really the only thing you would notice would be any extended battery life.

I've actually also been looking to get a MBP and have been poking around for any rumors about a product refresh in the Fall but the only one that really sounds logical is this one from macrumors.com: MacBook Pro Targeted 2.8GHz Core i7 Processors Due Later This Year - Mac Rumors It seems likely (based off of Intel's plans to release new mobile processors) that they would just add another CPU option above the current high-end and not do much of a big refresh at all. My guess is that they are holding off until Intel's newer architecture (Sandy Bridge) comes out in Q1 '11 for any really big shake up.

Totally just a guess based on what I've been able to find through some mild research this past month or two though so definitely take it with a grain of salt. I feel like if there was anything big coming down the line next month there would be WAAAAY more leaks and rumors floating around (like what usually surrounds any new Apple release).

I agree here too, a new MB Air, maybe a new CPU option or two, but that'd be about it.

( AppleInsider is also my main news/rumor source)

whats the date of the event?

I'm with the consensus onn this one - there'd be no change in MBP line. They might introduce iTv and refresh Macbook Air, Ipod lineups.

i wonder if Macbook Air will have an i3

If the 13" MBP doesn't have an i3, why would you even think Apple would put one in the MBA?
