Hi. I was wondering what is the latest available BootCamp drivers for 10.4 Tiger. I saw on the Apple site that 2.1 is available but they mentioned Leopard and wasn't sure whether or not they are compatible with Tiger. I have Windows XP SP3 installed, will this be a problem? Finally, I have never been able to use my brightness and volume keys like in Mac OS X. Does anyone know why? Thank you for your help!

Boot Camp in Tiger has always been a beta and never officially supported. So now that Leopard is released they no longer release new driver sets. Of course, the Boot Camp drivers are Windows drivers so they don't care whether you are running Tiger or Leopard once you boot into windows. I've used the Boot Camp 2.0 driver set from the Leopard disc on my Tiger Boot Camp partition. Boot Camp 2.1 better supports XP SP3, but I believe it'll only upgrade an existing Boot Camp 2.0 driver install. XP SP3 runs fine with Boot Camp 2.0, which is what I'm using right now.

In Windows, the F keys are actually used by some programs, so in order to use the volume buttons you have to hold down the fn key too. In OS X it's the other way around since F key usage is uncommon.

Thanks for your quick response! So from what you're saying, it should be okay to install the new 2.1 drivers using Tiger and Windows XP SP3 only if I install the 2.0 drivers first?

I think I have 1.3 drivers running at the moment, how do you check to see which version is installed? Also, I tried the F keys again in Windows XP. I tried F1 for decreasing brightness and nothing happened. I tried holding "fn" and pressing F1 and the Windows Support Center window came up. This was done on the desktop with all applications and browsers closed.

we are having a lot of problem with boot camp.

Sometimes when we try to boot into Vista Ultimate we just get the white blinking cursor on black background. It just seems to do that forever.

How do we get around this?

Installing the 2.1 drivers on Windows shouldn't affect or have anything to do with Tiger.

About the brightness/sound keys, by default, in bootcamp, the keys should work without the FN key. But there's always the Control Panel > Bootcamp panel you can mess around with.

Thanks cdnalsi! I heard 2.0 drivers have to be installed before 2.1 drivers. Is this true? Also, how do I check the current version of my Bootcamp as I have used the Apple Updater in Windows not too long ago.

You got me on the Bootcamp version. I'm in OS X right now, can't check, but see the Control Panel thing, does it have a Help > About menu or something like that?

The Apple Updater only does iTunes, Quicktime and Safari (optional). It doesn't download and update video drivers, keyboard, sound etc...

Oh and yes, install the 2.0 first. Reboot and do the 2.1 :D

How do you update the BootCamp drivers again? Last time I did it was with 1.3 I believe, so I really can't remember. haha

    Also, I can't find the 2.0 drivers anywhere...Apple only has 2.1 available.

Dang. Here's the 2.1 Drivers but it says there you have to install these BEFORE doing SP3 on XP. That's just awesome.

I'm still looking for 2.0, but I have the feeling I'm not going to find those, as they come with the Leopard DVD.

Yeah, I saw that earlier also..I have SP3 installed already, so I don't know what to do. I purchased an iMac like last month and it comes with a Leopard DVD..Do you think I can use the drivers from those to install the new drivers on my MBP?

Oh wait. You have a Leopard DVD? Then there you go. But not quite, as you've already installed SP3 on XP.

Best you can do is stick the Leopard DVD in the Macbook Pro and do Bootcamp 2.0 on XP. I'm not sure how big of a difference there is between 2.0 and 2.1 but it can't be THAT crucial.

Unless you wanna re-install XP, put Bootcamp 2.0, 2.1 and then SP3 :D

Also, get your video drivers from http://www.laptopvideo2go.com
The ones that come with Bootcamp are quite ancient. :D

I really don't want to reinstall XP. I posted a thread on the Apple Discussions forums asking about SP3 and 2.0/2.1. Hopefully it will work.

As for the graphics drivers, I tried them before but it was actually worse than the Boot Camp drivers, but then again it was about a year ago. Which graphics drivers currently works the best for you?

Drivers have come a long way since. Just don't get the latest one, get one before that.

I can't remember my version as I'm in OS X now and can't boot. I'm having stuff done in the background, sorry...

It should not be necessary to install the Boot Camp 2.1 drivers before SP3. They probably just say that as a precaution, since it implies that there are problems between Boot Camp 2.0 and SP3, but I've had no trouble with using Boot Camp 2.0 drivers from the betas through RTM of SP3. SP3 was just a standard cumulative hotfix type of service pack so it shouldn't require specific changes to how drivers are made unlike XP SP2 which had quite a lot of under the hood changes to improve security.

I figured the same thing, but I could not find a real explanation for it. Now as the for Boot Camp 2.0 drivers, is it possible to use the one on the Leopard DVD that came with my iMac (as I'm trying to update drivers on my MBP)?

Well the Leopard DVDs that come with computers usually include specific drivers for their model so it isn't always cross-compatible. But this is for OS X itself. I believe that the Boot Camp drivers should be the same regardless though. From your sig, your iMac is newer than your MBP, so the Leopard Boot Camp drivers in the iMac OS X disc should include those of your MBP. You should just try it.

My experience with the Boot Camp driver installer in a retail Leopard disk is that it installs the entire driver set for Apple's entire product line. Which means it installs drivers for components that you don't even have, in my case Realtek drivers even though I have Sigmatel audio. However, the extra drivers don't appear to interfere with anything. So it should be safe for you to try your iMac Leopard disc since even if there are extra drivers there shouldn't be a problem.

A user from the Apple Discussions forum said there should be no problem using the Leopard DVD to install the 2.0 drivers. He also mentioned some users had no problems installing the drivers with SP3, whereas others have. I guess I just have to see for myself. As for installation using the DVD, I assume I simply insert the DVD and bootup using the DVD and there should be an option for upgrade. Correct?

No. Don't boot from the DVD. I'm pretty sure that installs Leopard. I believe the method is to boot into Windows and then insert the disc. The driver install should auto-run.

Data is right. You don't boot from the DVD. Boot up Windows and insert the DVD. :D

Okay...so a problem occurred. I booted up into Windows, inserted the Leopard DVD 1. I could hear the computer trying to read the disk, but after about 30 seconds, it just ejected the disk. I tried a few more times and same thing occurred...Any idea?

The disk drive seems to have no problems. I played a music CD and repaired my keyboard drivers using my Boot Camp 1.3 Beta drivers off a CD, so now I can finally adjust the brightness/volume/eject/etc.!

I played a movie off a DVD in OS X and there were no problems either.

Finally, I tried the Mac OS X Install Disc 1 in OS X and it ejected it like it did in Windows. Tried it a second time and it read Disc 1. I tried the Mac OS X Install Disc 2 in OS X and it read it...Could it be just the Disc 1 having issues in Windows?

UPDATE: So finally the Mac OS X Install Disc 1 was read in Windows. But nowhere could I find update drivers for Boot Camp, nor did the DVD automatically start an update.
