What do you usually do after you've just got your brand new mac?

do you check for error? with the apple hardware tester?

/!\ and how do you remove the Office for MAC? do you just move it to "Trash"? will that completely get rid of it?

do you reformat your computer? (i did with my last macbook for some reason :p) coz i'm a bit paranoid that apple didn't install it properly. it did happen last time; when it release a batch of product without "journaling" enabled.

thank you guys for putting up with me  as this MBP would be used for my most cherised data. i don't want to screw it up :). not to mention my cherised hardware ;).

    Format and re-install OS X

That's just me though... I usually aim to streamline it a little bit - I don't install some printer drivers, some languages, and iThings like iWeb, iMovie, iDVD and iPhoto since I have all pro apps I'd rather use for that stuff.

Since this is my first Mac and since I am going to be doing a fresh Leopard install within the next few weeks... I've been installing a bunch of trial apps, tweaking settings, being reckless... I am basically determining what I can/can't do on a Mac, what I like installed on a Mac, and leave the rest up to XP via Parallels & Bootcamp :)

...that way I don't have to go through all of this when I get Leopard.

Yes, i make it a habit to download and try everything to see what is worth keeping. After im satisfied with the apps that i want i reinstall the OS and be done. Hopefully i won't have to reformat every 6 months like i did with XP.

OS X definitely does not "slow down and get junky" over time like Windows computers.

I usually format/reinstall OS X every 18 months or so, just because I feel like I junked it up with trial apps and I like to format and install operating systems.

It's usually working fine when I re-install and I don't get that noticeable "runs better and speed-up effect" like after I re-install Windows.

Wobble, in the future, please read the stickies first :). I spent a long time writing them, don't tell me no one reads them .

The very first part of the New Mac Owners section is "I just got my Mac! What should I do?", and that is just what you're asking here.

Regarding getting rid of Office 2004, Office 2004 Trial is in its own folder in the Applications folder; to get rid of it, just delete the folder!

    Test Drive Office 2004

And when you Reinstall OS X make sure you look into the Custom Install options (click the Customize button when you reach the Installation Type step). If my memory is accurate the Office 2004 Test Drive is under Applications.

I, for one, smoked a cigarette, rolled over, and took a nap (metaphorically speaking, of course). :D

i read it you know! but i just don't read it all because there are a lot of article written :p and it is helpful, it answer some of my question, when i first got my macbook last year :) thanks

and Xander. i tried that. but apparently if you haven't open the Microsoft Office, the "remove office" don't work.

hey how come i didn't get comic life trial on my new MBP? it seems cut down a lot of free apps that comes with the computer.

yes, i don't think mac computer really slow down from installed app. but i fall on the group that just want sparkling clean install. :)
