Just use a microfibre cloth, like one for cleaning your glasses (if you have glasses :p).

You don't really needs those iKlear chemicals to clean your screen. It doesn't hurt to use that stuff though.

you could clean it with isopropyl alcohol and a soft cloth... for the keyboard i take the alcohol and que tips and wipe each key. it evaporates very quickly, so you don't have to wait long after cleaning to begin smudging up your computer again.

Yep, a small microfiber cloth is good enough.

    Here's a decent plan:
Order the keyboard protector from ShaggyMac (make sure you use one of the promotion coupon codes), which is a rather large microfiber cloth. Now, you can protect your screen from your keyboard when the lid's shut.

Then, you can use the same cloth to clean your screen when necessary, so that solves that problem.

Finally, it ships with a pack of iKlear, so you'll be able to test iKlear once to see if it's worth it or not to you to buy in bulk.

You should clean LCDs with Hexane and a lint free cloth, seriously, I read this on a data sheet for an LCD panel. I would not recommend this, as long term exposure to Hexane can cause nerve damage. The datasheet for the LCD panel also mentioned that saliva or water are not good for the panel. As Hexane is hard to obtain in any case, a dry microfiber cloth is probably what one should use.

I can't speak for water, but I can confirm that you don't want to get saliva on your LCD. I've had spit ruin an LCD before. Saliva can be acidic.

i disagree. maybe i just didnt word it right. im not saying fill a bucket with spit andthen dip the cloth in it; im sayin fold the cloth, and lightly lick the corner andthen wipe the screen.

WHOA hold it there. You create a 1:1 solution of Isopropyl Alcohol AND water. I purchased a spray bottle and mixed the two in there. I then spray some of the solution onto a microfiber cloth and clean the screen.

I would suggest sandpaper. It works wonders for me. You can also use steel wool if you don't have any sandpaper. But seriously, I was actually wondering what to get too so I'll probably get a cloth from shaggymac.

You're the only person I've ever heard suggest spit as a cleaning solution for LCDs. I've seen it permanently, for lack of a better term, stain LCDs.

I guess we're just not going to see eye-to-eye on this one.

I use a microfiber cloth that came with our Samsung LCD HDTV.
I'm surprised how well just a bit of water on that cloth can clean my screen.

I've used "spit" before. Liked a stuck on spot and wiped it off.

    http://www.a-better-way.com/naturalhealthschool/acid-alkaline.html

One's saliva should be close to water's pH honestly.

I suppose if you just drank a coke or some juice maybe, but frankly i don't see "clean normal" saliva ruining a screen.

Granted i wouldn't bottle it and use it as a cleaner either.

Umm...instead of using your...saliva...to clean the screen, just use water :D. It works fine.

You just reminded me to clean my screen. I've been putting it off for a week.

    Just a pH reference.

Sam is right, water works just fine and doesn't harm the screen.

Eh...prolonged use of tissue will probably scratch your screen in the long run.

Apple recommends iKlear. I can't recommend this stuff, as it leaves a layer of haze on your screen. It's not really noticeable when the computer is on, but it looks really messy when it's off. This is really hard to get off too. I sometimes have to use another LCD cleaner, just to get this stuff off.

Apply a little to a cloth, then wipe the screen. Don't spray the screen directly.

Yeah, water is fine. Some say tap water has minerals that will damage the screen, but its mostly fine. I remember you're in Vancouver as well, and Vancouver tap water is very clean, so don't worry about using just tap water.

Put water on a cloth (if you have cloths for glasses, for example, they work fantastic) and just wipe the screen gently.
