    In windows (Office 2007):
    Open .docx file
    Save as .pdf
PDF is perfect. The blue page background is clearly displayed too.

In OSX (Office for mac 2008):
    Open .docx file
    Save as .pdf
PDF is perfect, except the blue background is now white

Is there something i'm doing wrong? :(

How are you saving it as PDF in both situations?

Are you saving the document into PDF format by 'printing' into a PDF printer which saves as a PDF file? If so, which program?

You can save as PDF in Microsoft Office, so in both situations i'm just literally going to "save as" and selecting .pdf

The only difference is that the windows version of Office 2007 saves the background colour when converting to .pdf, and the mac version of Office 2008 doesn't save the background colour when converting to .pdf

Is there an option i'm not selecting or something? I think it would be strange if Microsoft made the creation of .pdf documents different for their mac and windows versions?

you don't even need that feature on Office 2008, was a waste of time by Microsoft. You can just hit to print, then save as a PDF, which is how I do mine, and it always comes out perfect... you can also hit Preview on the print to open it up in the Preview program, see how it looks (it is a PDF in preview), then hit "save as" and save it how you see it.

My solution (after fighting with several Word 2008 bugs): don't use it.

I use Word 2007 via Parallels when necessary, but usually I use Mellel for all my word-processing needs.

Do you think this could be a bug?

It doesn't work as the print to pdf option either. It just outright ignores what background colour you've chosen and just automatically replaces it with a white one when it converts to pdf.

On windows, it works perfectly. Stupid microsoft!

i make colored backgrounds in Word 2008 and it prints to PDF fine with them.. maybe you have some weird option or printer driver or something.. I dont know.

oh i found an option in preferences where you can check wether or not you want to print backgrounds... might need to go look at that
