Can anyone recommend a program to assess hard drive health?

My 08 Macbook unibody has been having issues of file system corruption that can't not be fixed with Disk Utility or Fsck. I'm the type to keep my system clear of junk. I occassionally run Onyx to fix permissions and what not. I also use Disk Utility every now and then to ensure everything is running nice and smooth.

For the past few months, I've had issues of file system corruption with no apparent cause in sight. I'm not too sure how useful the S.M.A.R.T. thing is... but nothing else would indicate impending hard drive failure.

Is there something you guys would recommend to assess the state of my HDD?

    Thanks!!!
