I'm using transmission as my torrent client. A file is damaged and I want to restart it. I delete the files and empty my trash. I then download the torrent file again and the file automatically resumes 3/4 of the way done.
How do I make it stop resuming? It must be storing the file somewhere else as it's saved to my desktop, but obviously being deleted.
I tried restarting the computer and it still resumed.

Did you remove the torrent from transmission as well, or did you just delete the file from your finder/desktop? Did you delete both the torrent and the downloaded file?
-
yeah I'm not seeing anything else of the file.
-
Why don't you try searching for the file name or something similar with spotlight, see if anything comes up?
Where does Transmission keep your incomplete files? You can see it under the General tab in the preferences -
I just did that and nothing comes up. Yet when I start the torrent again it begins. There is no way it is going this fast as the file is 1.2GB
No nothing illegal. It's a video my friend recorded at his last seminar. -
Hahah I never thought it was anything illegal, don't worry.
Download Disk Inventory X, it will allow you to look for files in your volumes based on their size, just look for one that is 1.2GB and delete it. -
thanks for trying to help 00fez. I am running the program and the file doesn't exist that it finds. But when I download it to start it again, it's instantly got 3/4 of the file again! What the heck.
-
I restarted and tried it again. It's still there somehow! What the heck.
-
Right click the file in transmission, and select "remove source" or something like that. That will get rid of all the data and reset it to a zero point.
-
Sorry I couldn't be of any help, but I think system_159 is on to something there
-
I have remove from list and remove data file. I've tried both of them, but have nevr had a problem with remove data file before.
-
I did try it both ways now and the file is still there. I removed it from list and then manually deleted the file and emptied the trash. Didn't work and neither did having transmission delete the file.
-
Why don't you reinstall Transmission?
-
it's not transmission as the file isn't being deleted. I have even manually deleted the files, and somehow the file is still there.
-
I don't really like Transmission. Instead try Azureus or µTorrent (with Crossover or Darwine).
For your problem open Transmission and choose Transmission --> Preferences --> Transfers. Do you have the "Keep incomplete files in" box checked? If so, uncheck that and navigate to the directory where those files are and delete them. Then Right-Click the torrent download in the Transmission window and choose "Reveal Data File in Finder". Right-Click the torrent download again in Transmission and select "Remove Data File". Make sure the files have been moved into the Trash and then Empty the Trash.
Hopefully that works. -
I don't have it set to keep incomplete files. And they are saved right to my desktop so it is very easy to see if they are here or not.
-
Well I have no idea then, sorry. What do you mean that the file isn't being deleted? Do you get an error message?
Some other things to try...
After you delete the files, change Transmission's download directory. Then try the torrent again.
If that still doesn't work delete the files and then completely remove Transmission with AppDelete or AppZapper.
Or just delete Transmission.app and:
/Library/Application Support/Transmission
/Library/Caches/Transmission
/Library/Preferences/org.m0k.transmission.plist
You'll probably want to Restart your Mac after removing Transmission. Then either try reinstalling Transmission or switch to Azureus or some other BitTorrent Client. -
appdelete fixed it after the reinstall and restart! Appcleaner didn't do it. I guess appdelete is better
thanks for the help everyone -
µTorrent for Mac?
Switching to Azureus from µTorrent has been a pain since I got my Mac.
Meh, did a quick google and it seems more trouble than its worth.
Thanks for the heads-up Xander if I ever want to try it. -
You may want to look at transmission then. Azureus is huge and unwieldy, whereas Transmission is very light weight, which is a blessing after dealing with Az. -

There is no such thing as utorrent for Mac, and probably never will be from the looks of it.
Ah well, I'm stuck with Azureus as the lesser of the 4 evils on OSX for now.
Also, you ever notice how Apple doesn't update its java implementation...ever?
Want torrent to start over. It keeps resuming after deleting file. solution?
