You can use the tools for finding the right ram on Crucial.com ... they'll show you what they have, but also the exact specs of the RAm they guarantee to work, then you'll know exactly what to look for elsewhere if you decide to not buy from Crucial...

Crucial lists $80 for a 4GB kit.. (two 2gb sticks).. which isn't bad since they guarantee it'll work, and give lifetime warranty on it.

I would think it will help out a fair amount when running vista or xp in bootcamp/parallels desktop.

Maybe for any other VM software?

I did the upgrade. Barely noticed a difference on OSX, but the difference running Windows (VM under Fusion) was very pronounced. So, I suppose that would be where you would notice the greatest difference everyday.

OSX is otherwise such a good memory manager with low overhead that the next greatest difference would be with graphic applications that load or manipulate huge files, such as some video editors. Otherwise it would take a huge amount of multitasking with many open apps to see major differences.
