Howdy y'all. My father is forcing me to purchase a notebook computer over summer vacation after school, and with me paying half of it so I won't feel so guilty. I have decided on a MacBook Pro 15.4"... specs are on this link

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....#productdetail

Since most games that I like need to work on Windows XP, such as...
    *Fable: The Lost Chapters
    *Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2
    *The Sims 2

I was wondering if I should purchase this. I don't know if it is a 64 bit OS, since it doesn't say on the specs.

Also, I need some help. After I purchase the MacBook Pro, what should I do to change the OS to Windows XP? I've heard that you can still have both OS functioning using Boot Camp, but I don't know how to do it. Will the computer be slower since I have two OS at the same time?

Also, is there bloatware in an Apple MacBook Pro? How do you remove it pernamently (something more than deleting it in the Recycling Bin)?

Thank you, and have a nice day/night depending on where you're at.

I'm biased against Apple and their overpriced/locked down hardware but here's my reasoning. Macs are good for multimedia (pic/vid editing (+1 Apple if you do these tasks)) since that's basically what they're built for. However, you want to play games (+1 Windows for these tasks) so why bother with an Apple computer since you need to run Windows anyways, plus you can get the same specced machine for a way better price (+1 Windows).

Anywho, in relation to your other Q's. Go buy XP unless you have an extra license lying around (+1 Windows, for key included w/ new laptop).

The comp will be slower when using 2 OSes since they'll both be using up resources.

From my belief, Apple doesn't have "bloat" in the same way that a PC does (+1 Apple) they just include the programs you'll never use (like Garage Band/their image editor, THAT IS, UNLESS YOU DO THESE TASKS (though you never mentioned them)(-.5 for Apple if you don't use them)), however you should always fresh install any computer when you get it (removes all the bloat).

Finally, +1 to Windows for programs just working and not needing a workaround like Bootcamp so I can say 'WHY DID YOU GET A MAC IF YOU NEED WINDOWS ANYWAYS?'

Final score: Apple: 1.5; PC: 4

OS X is 64-bit, but as long as you use a copy of Windows that's 32-bit, those games will work fine.
There is very little bloatware on a Mac, besides trials of iWork, I think.

Actually, it doesn't, since you only load one of the operating systems when you start up using boot camp.

If you like OS X, then I would recommend buying a Mac. However, in my opinion its not worth buying one just for the hardware.

As for deleting applications, if you go to macupdate.com you can find a myriad of free programs with which you can "uninstall" applications, such as http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/23149/appdelete.

Sims 2 works and looks great on my MBP in XP :D And its easy to set up in Leopard, you just use the Boot Camp Assistant.

criticism of apple is fine, but this is just flawed logic.

notice how he tallies up points for apple vs windows, and then posts the final tallied scores as apple vs PC. Thats your basic bait and switch tactic. Apple computers CAN RUN WINDOWS just like any other x86 computer.

Of course, with the apple machine, you do have to consider what you are paying for. You are paying for the hardware design and for OSX. if you aren't going to use osx and are willing to accept a more standard laptop design, the dell xps m1530 has pretty much the same internal specs and can be had for less.

It is easy to set up your machine with 2 operating systems. There is no performance penalty, both operating systems are NOT running at the same time. if you want to run both OS's at once, you will need specialized 3rd party software to do it (vmware fusion)

+1 to Apple because OS X is better than Vista or XP.
The computer will not be slower when running 2 OS through bootcamp
-.5? thats dumb. it oughta be -1 from windows for including so much bloat
+1 for "just working"? ha. which is why there were all those problems when Vista came out.
    and you missed a few-
+1 to apple for not having to panic about viruses
+1 to apple for awesome customer support
+1 to apple for making computers that last longer than PC's

Fully agree. I think this basically summarizes the reason for buying a MacBook.

enough with the windows vs mac who cares, by the sounds of it sealcaptain0 has mentioned nothing in terms of mac as a need, but has mentioned he is a gamer, hence a need for windows. i think before we can give any advice we need to know what you want to run and use this laptop for, also sealcaptain0 have you used os x before?

Go Windows, you do not seem like you need or want to use OSX. Don't get a mac just to look "cool" or anything. Get it if you have a legit reason. Getting it to be "cool" is one of the lamest things you can do.

    WHAT!?

Seriously? Apple lasts longer than PCs? I did not know that. And here i though Apple and PCs are basically the same except the Operating Systems

So you are saying OSX can extend the life of a hardware? Damn.

Macs have better resale values than most other PCs and one can usually use one for a longer period of time. If you overclock your Mac like mad, then your hardware won't last any longer than if you overclocked a PC notebook to the same extent.
