    ****waves hello

    Hi all,

I have been lurking these forums for more than a month now as I searched for a laptop and have found these forums supportive, insightful and even humorous at times.

Thank you for that by the way.

Being a PC person, it has been a hard decision, although that macs can run windows programs has definitely made the decision easier.

A couple of days ago, after much deliberation, i purchased a macbook core 2 duo (refurb) blackbook, It should come about July 19.

I don't consider myself a switcher as of yet. I still plan on stradling both worlds, mac and pc. I figure it can't hurt to know both systems, although some confusion may set in. I can see myself trying to use some mac actions on a pc and vise versa. :D

I am a bit of a gamer, but bought the macbook knowing that that won't be one of its strong points, although I know I can run some games on it. My three year old pc desktop will serve that purpose for as long as it can. When that goes to Silicon Heaven (yes there is a Silicon Heaven, if there weren't where would all the calculators go?) I will have to decide whether to go Apple or remain pc.

I know I will have some questions and if I can't find them on the forums already (or if i get too lazy to look) I will ask them here.

Thanks again to the posters and the people who run notebookreview.com for providing such a forum.

I did the same as you for so long before actually becoming a bit more active on these boards. Throughout my travels on the net, this website has to be the absolute #1 on all things mobile computing. I'm glad you decided to post.

I'm also receiving my first apple computer a few days after yours!

If you want to make things really confusing, go get Ubuntu Linux and install it through VMware player (which is free) on your Windows machine so you can try to learn THREE operating systems at once! I actually did this last night on my Alienware. Ubuntu is neat, Linux itself seems 10 times more customizable than Windows, but it becomes much more in depth and complicated as you progress. I believe Ubuntu is supposed to be the most user-friendly flavor of Linux, and so far it really is pretty intuitive!

Heh, if you actually try installing Ubuntu on Vmware player, make sure to post here first, I need to find the configuration file you need to get it to work.

    WELCOME!

Well, congrats on your purchase Lurker8 :). If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask!

I've probably done this at least ten times, but these two articles are pretty useful at helping understand the transistion from Windows to Mac OS X. It helped me and hopefully it'll help you understand as well.

    Thanks StormEffect and Sam.

StormE, I think I will have my hands full learning Mac, but who knows, maybe someday I will make a foray into Ubuntu. I have heard good things about it and Linux and I think competition is good. That's one of the reasons I bought a macbook, among many other reasons. In a way, I am shaking my fists at Bill Gates and Microsoft, although I am not completely leaving Windows, at least not yet.

I think the Windows based computer and software makers are taking notice.
Some have suggested that Windows has drawn upon the looks of Apple for Vista's appearance. And I noticed that Dell is offering its computers with less bloatware (it is an option I believe) which probably is the result of complaints not to mention that the biting and funny Mac commercial with the bloated pc waddling onto the stage probably hit a little too close to home.

Sam, yeah those are great articles and I am sure I will be going back to them. And what questions those don't answer, I am sure I will find answers for in these forums.
