I'm a bit disappointed -- I put in the WD Scorpio into this MBP and man is it loud. I can hear it spinning -- sounds like a fan most of the time. Assume it's just normal vibration, but was surprised since my last MBP had a 7200 RPM drive and I couldn't hear it at all.
Is there a drive that is quieter?

I've read several complaints about the WD3200BEKT. Seagate 7200.3 does a bit better, although it still gets some complaints.
If you want to be safe consider WD5000BEVT, 5400rpm. It comes close to 7200rpm performance.
You could try setting the AAM value see if that reduces the problem. I don't know how to do that in OS X though. -
i have a seagate 320 GB and have no complaints

i have the hitachi 7k320. pretty loud as well... very disappointed in it actually. considering actually sending it in to hitachi to get repaired/replaced, because it also vibrates and started giving me kernel panics.
going to buy the seagate 500gb 7200rpm as soon as it's out.
and for those who say 7200rpm gives negligible performance increases, or that they draw too much power to be useful in a notebook, there's a tom's hardware 7200rpm 320gb roundup that will set it straight. they set new transfer records while using less than 5% more power than a comparable 5400rpm disk.
once i can post links i'll come back here and post the link
and btw in that same test, the seagate was most fastest, and still very efficient. -

i am personally just waiting and waiting and waiting for a 500gb 7200rpm drive to come out, it is really ridiculous that it is taking this long with 500gb 5400rpm drives out for so long already.
upgrading from 160gb to 320gb is great, but 160 to 500 is really really really worth it for me. -
Okay, so I put in the WD Scorpio Blue today (5400 RPM, 500GB). Same vibration.
Crap!
Are WD drives "noisier?" The stock drive was by Hitatchi and doesn't make the same vibration. Weird. -
I read someone on Macrumors who used some rubber. It got rid of the vibration of the WD5000BEVT.

I had a WD3200BEKT installed in my T60 for no less than 3 minutes, before I removed it because of how much it vibrates. It is very poorly balanced, or WD has very low balancing standards.. it sounds almost as bad as a CD-ROM. This kind of quality control MUST be why it's so cheap. My T60 stays on 24/7 and it's docked in my bedroom at night, the WD3200BEKT would have increased the background white noise. On paper, it looks great, and I'm sure it performs well, but unless you want to use your laptop to stimulate your girlfriend, I suggest you beware!

thats odd, my hdd seems to be pretty quite. It doesn't vibrate at all...
-
Differences can be caused by differences between individual drives and also by differences between laptops. For example: Macbooks tend to vibrate quite easily.

Possibly a bad batch of drives? -
mine is very quiet...i don't know what the rest of you guys are hearing.
WD Scorpio Black 7200 RPM + New MBP = Noisy
