I have installed Vista x64.

I will elaborate some experienced.

Windows Downloads Needed:
Marvell Yukon 88E8058 x64 Ethernet Driver
Latest x64 Nvidia Drivers (currently build 160)
Input Remapper latest build (currently 1.0.04)

Note: "Window button" is the start menu button. When i say "type" into that, I mean, type into the search bar that is displayed in the start menu. Much like OS/X, it'll display the shortcuts that match what you type. This will make more sense when you do it, if you don't currently understand.

Basic How-To:

Assumptions:
You begin with a fresh install of OS/X, install Boot camp 1.3, install Vista x64 Ultimate (only OS i confirmed with), and are loading up into this fresh vista.

Do not start any Part until the FIRST part is absolutely completely finished, or you'll find Order-of-Operation issues occur that will b0rk it, and possibly make your work meaningless. Another note. Until step 3, your fans WILL NOT be working. It won't kill the computer but it'll get very warm. If you have a laptop cooler, use it. If not, try to leave the laptop on something solid and conductive (metal). We'll get fans working eventually.

<dl>
<dt>Part 1 - Networking</dt>
<dd>Fans not working. Resolution in VGA mode. No right click.

1. Download marvell yukon 88e8058 x64 driver on another computer, unzip if archived

2. Transfer it Via flash drive (or cd) onto Desktop

3. Press the start button, type in Device manager, press enter to open Device Manager

4. Open the Network Adapters Tree

5. Click the ethernet controller, then click Action, and finally, click Update driver software

6. Choose browse my computer, go to the Desktop, double click the driver file

7. Plug it into your network and.. .. get that working. It might take time to notice it, but eventually it will. You may need to 'repair' your connection. If necessary, restart the computer.

</dd>
<dt>Part 2 - Windows Updates</dt>
<dd> Fans still not working. No Right Click. Video Pristine!
1. This part's fun! Press start, type in Windows Update, press enter

2. Click the Link Button that sends you to get more than just updates for windows, and then.. .. do that.

3. Make certain you're downloading and intalling updates. While that's happening, download the Nvidia drivers. Don't install them yet. When the updates are downloaded and installed, do NOT restart.

4. Press the window button, type CMD, press ctrl-shift-enter to open up the command prompt in Admin Mode.

5. In the prompt, type (without quotes) "Bcdedit.exe /set nointegritychecks ON" (this is for Input Remapper! DO NOT SKIP)

6. Install Nvidia Drivers (click OK when it says they are not signed)
</dd>
<dt>Part 3 - Input Remapper</dt>
<dd>Still no fans... But they're coming soon..!
Make sure you have installed the first round of windows updates AND disabled Integrity check or the input Remapper will almost certainly fail. That'd be bad!

1. Download Input Remapper

2. Run the program (it should install automatically)

3. Restart (ignoring any other prompt..)

4. When you come on, you'll get a new icon in the lower right. Also, if you press the enter key in the lower right of the keyboard, you'll be able to right click.

5. Click the Input Remapper tray icon and click Macbook Settings

6. As of this writing you can control 2 of 4 fans. You can see the bars for the fans on the bottom. I recommend immediately raising them to around 4-5kRPM until your notebook is cool. Mine currently remains around 4.6krpm, is nearly silent (silent in the air condition) and remains perfectly cool.

7. Play around with the input remapper settings as you wish. There's some cool things in there. I'll itemize what's missing at the time of this writing later

</dd>
<dt>Step 4 - Visual Studio Developers Only (Skip to end for other notes if N/A)</dt>
<dd>This step is for developers that want to install Visual Studio on Vista x64. Everyone else, at this point, as their fans, 'Right click', and video working. Remember to use administrative Privileges when installing these!

1. Insert the VS2005 CD. Close the Autorun.

2. Open My Computer and go to the disc. Find the setup file and right click, Run as administrator. Now, Install Visual Studio 2005 Professional with administrative privileges. (if applicable, don't know if it works for other versions, others can confirm). If it crashes during the install, just start it up again, Repair/Remove, and it will finish the installation.

3. Install Visual Studio 2005 SP1 with administrative privileges. Please note, this version DOES cover Visual Studio Professional. Do NOT be tempted by Windows Update. Wait until it's finished.

4. Install Visual Studio 2005 SP1 for Vista with administrative privileges.

5. Optional: Install SQL Server 2005 x64

6. Optional: Install BizTalk 2005

7. Optional: Install VSS 2005

8. Now, run windows Update to get all the remaining updates necessary.

</dd>
<dt>NOTES: What doesn't work at the time of this writing</dt>
<dd>

• Tap-and-click

• Double tap right click

• Double tap double click

• I-Sight camera

• Backlight control for LCD through Keyboard (lid turns it off)

• Suspend (returns with LED off?)

• Hibernate (returns with green screen o_O )

• Self-regulating fans

• Light sensors for LCD/Keyboard

If anyone is aware of a way to set up the trackpad to function correctly on vista (or XP) x64, please leave a message, preferably PM me (will update this if anyone does).

If you have corrections or suggestions, please feel free to PM me. I will eventually have more details information as it becomes available and necessary. This is a basic outline of function for now. The first post is meant as a basic how-to, this is (or will be) a more detailed and categorized explanation of how to activate particular features, and whether or not they're supported.

• Audio

• Bluetooth

• ExpressCard

• Fans

• i-Sight

• Keyboard

• Suspend and Hibernate

• Trackpad

• Video

• Wireless

Video

Video is currently supported. Download and install the latest drivers from LaptopVideo2Go

Audio

Audio is currently supported. Download the latest RealTek drivers from the realTek driver download site

Bluetooth
I don't believe this is currently supported

TrackPad
Though the trackpad words, it has none of the useful functionality that OS/X provides (such as double tap right click)

iSight
Not currently supported.

ExpressCard
Untested.

Fans
Supported with Input Remapper

Suspend and Hibernate
Not currently supported.

Wireless
I had zero trouble getting wireless to work, after getting the ethernet hooked up, and windows updates installed. Alenas suggests using this site to download wireless drivers if you have any trouble. This might be an alternative to the Ethernet approach, as well, to gain network connectivity.

I got one word for you: Awesome! I was worried about installing Vista x64 but I think I'll give it a whirl with said instructions. Just waiting on the MBP to come in though.

EDIT: I'll let you know if I run into problems on my try at this.

Thats a very strong possibility considering Leopard is 64-bit and Boot Camp will be out of beta when Leopard is released.

Bluetooth does not (seem) to work. I'd like to try a generic 32bit driver, but, I can't find any. Sound works easily, and I will update how to do that in a bit.

Does all of this work for a Macbook not PRO (sant rosa) version?

I have Vista 32bit on there now and the only "Apple Drivers" I see are the camera and touch pad. Everthing else is from MS or say Intel for the video.

When you "fans" I assume the sytem monitor that kicks on the fans to cool the notebook? That is probably an Apple driver as well in Vista 32bit.
