I was wondering if anyone has heard rumors of a video card refresh in the next couple months? The only reason I ask is b/c newer pc laptops are going to the 512 vram 7700's and 1700's. Also, weren't the first release of the intel mbp's equiped with an nvidia card? If so, why did they switch to ATI?

No, the MBP have always had x1600's in them. I doubt they'll change them anytime soon. The MB will have the newer integrated video card when Santa Rose comes out, but I doubt there will be a change in the video card for the MBP.
Anything larger/more powerful will simply produce too much heat.

I don't think the newer cards w/ larger vram cause any more noticable heat. Plus the added vram is quite small, so I doubt it would be a size issue. However, apple doesn't even have 512mb cards available on their iMacs. Apple should really add an inbetween option w/ a 2.16 proc w/ the 256 vram as opposed to the all or nothing approach.

Yes, the extra ram would cause noticble heat difference. Ram gets VERY hot, especially video card ram when its under use.

The 7700/x1700 don't really offer that much of an upgrade. I really would not worry about waiting for it.
