VMware has announced it will release Fusion on August 6th. I've added this to the Running Windows on a Mac sticky, but I just thought I'd get this news out quicker :p. Get your pre-orders in fast! ;)

Pre-orders are being taken until August 5th (last day before release).

Wow, this sucks. That's probably the day my MBP will arrive. I was originally going to test it out and then consider buying it. Now? I'm not so sure :(.

What do you guys think. Should I buy it?
I actually have a question about virtualization. If you use it for like one program (steam or xfire for example). How much would this decrease the speed/memory of your machine?

They will have a trial version, the thing is price would then go up from pre-order price of $39.99 to $79.99

@Sam:- I dont see anything about this news on VMWare website yet ? They are still saying end of August release.

Hrm, I haven't kept up with all the VMWare vs Parallels threads.

If graphics quality is not an issue (i.e. I'm not going to game thru virtualization), which of the two is better?

Also, even though Parallels advertises DX9.1...does this mean Aero is actually enabled yet?

Heh...I actually wasn't going to use either fusion or parallels at all since I haven't found a need to use Windows for anything but gaming...

But with the delay of Office 2008 (and how clumsy NeoOffice is IMO), I may just have to invest in it to use Office 2007 for half a year or so until 2008.

    Ah well..,

I find VMware Fusion is the better application if you don't game virtually (and you shouldn't :D). More features and the lower pre-order price.

And to ethanhunt, yes, I noticed that VMware's website hasn't said anything yet. I originally got this from Ars Technica, who posted this article very confidently (it wasn't labelled a "rumour story"). But I checked again just in case. And a quick search on Google News I found more articles announcing the release date, so yes, its confirmed.

Wow, it is being released earlier than expected... unlike certain companies who continually delay items (*ahem, Apple and Microsoft). Glad I got my pre-order in already. Also got the Griffin 5-in-1 memory card reader and Speck hard-case, but...

I'm lacking the MBP to install them on  ! It will probably arrive the day of the VMWare Fusion official release...

Is that the one I told you about? If so, how do you like it? And how far does it "stick out" when inserted?

I think it is the one you told me about. I went ahead and got it from Amazon, and is scheduled to arrive today.

My MBP won't be delivered until sometime next week [ :(], so I won't be able to test it until then. I'll give an update once I get it. :D

Edit: I read some reviews for it on Amazon's website and one reviewer mentioned that it is flush with the side of the MBP. Nothing sticks out from it.

I'm actually enjoying Fusion. A few questions though

I managed to get both the dock and the start menu to appear at the same time in Unity Mode (usually when i keep the Sidebar open, it'll keep a portion of the desktop background with it, and the Start Menu as well)...

Is there a way to keep the Start Menu out in Unity Mode without the Sidebar?

All these cool things you can do to mix OSX and Windows is adding fuel to the fire. I want my Mac!!!

Edit: Sorry that I didn't answer your question. But without a Mac, I can't try it out.
