So... anyone know when it will be in open beta?
I noticed it's in development, and there is a signup for the beta, but no info on when it will be available for beta. Anyone hear any rumors about it?
I know it will probably be more expensive and a bit more difficult to use than Parallels, but I'm curious to try it out.

No info on the beta. But why do you think it will be more expensive? VMware has a lot of free (as in beer) solutions available. And I can guarantee it is no more difficult to use than Parallels, in fact the first thing I thought about Parallels was "wow, they copied VMWare's interface completely".

Well, it's been a few years since I've used VMWare, but I remember it being a bit more difficult than Parallels was. And I remember VMWare being very expensive (several hundred dollars).
But there ar eso many different VMWare products now... I'm not even sure which one is really the one to compete with Parallels.

A few years is an eternity when talking about softwares. ;) I just checked it you're somewhat right about the price, VMWare Workstation (which would provide about the same set of features of Parallels Desktop) costs about US$200, there is a US$50 rebate until the end of the year, so it is roughly 2x more expensive. You can donwload an evaluation version, and there are free VMWare players available (you can run virtual machines but not create them).

VMWare will be expensive as Wooky says. When you figure that and add that Parallels is faster than VMWare, I don't see a lot of reason to choose VMWare.
