I installed XP Pro through VMware Fusion and I was using XP without any problems for a while. I ran the Microsoft update and when I rebooted, the operating system locked up. I tried re-booting several times but it always gets stuck at the Microsoft boot up splash screen. It lets me boot in safe mode but that's about it. Every time I try to boot into regular mode, it locks up. Can any one tell me how to fix this?

Boot into safe mode, and run a system restore to the check point before you made those changes.

OK...I ran the system restore and got it to the point before I ran the updates and it worked. But then I ran the updates again and same problem! Does Fusion have a problem with Microsoft updates? Or I am doing something wrong but can't figure out what it is.

Which XP service pack do you have installed and which version of VMWare Fusion do you have?

Make sure you are running VMWare Fusion 2, and that you are running a legit copy of Windows.

I bought the software couple days ago and it says VMWare Fusion 2 on the box. I installed it but I didn't run any updates. I am assuming it's the latest version. The XP copy is legit and I activated the os without any problems. I updated every thing except SP3.

Try installing SP3 only and see if it locks up.

sounds like your just having a compatibility issue, that might not have anything to do with XP or fusion, but maybe another product. Are you getting an error message? and if so what does the messege say?

I have Adobe CS2 installed(just adobe acrobat) and it kept re-installing it self for the first 3-4 times I started the software. Maybe Adobe is causing this. I will uninstall and see if that does it.
