I downloaded and installed the VLC Media Player on my Mac but still can't get videos to play in Safari. The browser points me toward the Microsoft download for wmv files.

From what I've read VLC is the best player. What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks :)

Most people seem to recommend Flip4Mac to allow WMVs to play in your browser. IIRC VLC is just a standalone player and doesn't integrate with your browser.

VLC is not really the best, but people like it because it plays just about anything without having to download codecs or plugins etc. Also, it is a standalone player, it doesn't integrate with Safari. So if you have a video file that you find on the net, download it and then view it with VLC.

VLC codec are separate from QT codecs and safari uses QT.
