I currently use a Macbook Pro 2010 model to DJ and for music production. Does anyone here do so as well and if so, do you recommend I upgrade now that's it's nearing 4 years old or keep to what I got?

Depends on what software and interfaces you use now and will be using later.

I use Traktor for DJing and Ableton for production. I don't use any midi controllers for Ableton. For Traktor, I use an audio interface (NI Audio 2).

Im not an audio girl but can kick this to a colleague who does my audio work. how heavy on the production side since Traktor is not exactly too intensive from what I KNOW

It depends on your current configuration too. Have you upgraded the RAM and installed an SSD? Those two aspects alone can make your MBP feel like a whole new system. Additionally, if you are shallow on the music production end, your current system might be good enough with it's current configuration. Are you currently experiencing any slowdown for what you're doing? If so, a simple RAM and SSD upgrade might be enough to overcome it. Paying for a $250 update is better than spending a new system if you don't need it.
I "DJ" on the side but all I do is play songs back in iTunes. I make a playlist of music fitting the genre that the customers want and I take requests. People can either bring me their devices with songs on them or I charge $0.69-$1.29 for requests that require purchasing from the iTunes Store/Amazon mp3 store. So my "DJ" uses are very, very simple. The most I do is playback content in iTunes using it's built-in crossfade playback feature.
