At the risk of sounding like I know nothing (switcher) Is one E-mail system better then another for the Mbp. I currently use only AOL.

Yes. Everything > AOL, regardless of what OS you're using :p

I actually like Mail.app due to its many features and how it sorts and threads.

A lot of people, especially coming from Windows, like Thunderbird. The latest nightlies add tabbed message browsing as a feature, which is neat, but still slightly buggy. Thunderbird is actually unbearably slow IMO (like firefox and minefield on OSX), so I don't use it, but some people swear by it.

Then there's Entourage 2008, which you may decide to use since it's included with Office 2008 anyway.

Gmail is without question the best online system available, which should work with Mail without any problems.

not to mention all of the great things that are available like the gmail notifier and whatever little apps Google will develop for it.

i recommend not using AOL anything, it really is a shame that iChat is made to work with AIM accounts, or have they changed it yet to work with Yahoo and MSN accounts?

Get rid of AOL. I really like Gmail, but Yahoo! Mail is also good. Both are POP3 and will work fine with Mail.app. If you are looking at IMAP, I really like FastMail, but I do not recommend using Mail.app with an IMAP account. Thunderbird handles IMAP much better.

Thanks, What is bad so about AOL? Another novice ?, mail.app is an application that came with the MBP? I thought it was used for coordinating all outside mail accounts. Is it an account I set up with .mac?

Mail or Mail.app as it is called, is a desktop email client similar to Outlook Express (now called Windows Mail) or Thunderbird. Basically it will get your mail for you without having to go to a web interface. I am not sure if AOL works with Mail.app, but it is just best to get away from AOL if you can.
