Hey Gusy just wondering if I can use Iphoto to view all my current photos in the Pictures folder.

If not do I just import and then delete my old pics.

You have to import them and iPhoto will sort them into an iPhoto Library file inside your pictures folder. Right click on that and show contents and you can find - amongst other things - your original images.

Personally, I just have a few pix in iPhoto and the rest on disk. I'll have a proper managing program when Picasa comes out for the Mac. Presumably end of the year. Picasa leaves pictures where they are and I find it overall much better than iPhoto at least IMHO. I am not a fan of iPhoto.

Well I have to agree. It seems like an awful lot of work to organize my pics in iPhoto when I have them already organized in the PICTURES folder. I guess I will just continue using preview to view them and will wait for Picasa also.

Just uncheck "copy items to iPhoto library" under preferences/advanced. Now all you import will appear on iPhoto and your folder structure will remain intact.

Nope that doesn't work. I unchecked the box as you directed. When I go ahead now and import they still make a duplicate of my photos in the IPHOTO library under PICTURES. With 9 Gigs of Pictures that takes up then 18 gigs of space.

I guess I could delete the other pictures once imported I guess. Thanks any way Kenny. Appreciate it.

Aperture allows you basically any organization and management that you might want.

but you should be able to do that in iPhoto the way Kenny mentioned.
