When usb 3.0 comes out possibly in 2010 will Apple only have usb 3.0 in the Macbook Pro or the Macbook and and Pro?
* As usb 3.0 might be a Pro feature only like firewire and expresscard.
- All I can say is I hope that USB 3.0 wont be like usb 2.0 and share its bandwidth with all the devices plugged in.
-
USB3.0 is supposed to operate pretty much like USB2.0, so yes there will be bandwidth sharing and most likely all notebooks will include only USB3.0 ports since they are backwards compatible with USB2.0, 1.1, and 1.0.
Intel and AMD, if I remember correctly, worked to make sure that the USB3.0 specification and IP for silicon were free or low cost to obtain. USB3.0 is going to take over as the de-facto standard once released, so I'm guessing that Apple will include it on all notebooks.
Oh, and even with bandwidth sharing...USB3.0 is supposed to hit 3Gbps. You won't ever notice bandwidth sharing at all with that kind of speed, unless you hook up a few hard drives to a single port. -
USB 3.0 is a replacement spec, not a new standard. All manufacturers will eventually ship with nothing but USB 3.0 as motherboards will eventually all come with USB 3.0.
-
Apple will surely implement it in their notebooks.
-
I have a feeling usb 3.0 real life speeds will be on par as the firewire 800.
-
Let's hope so. We need to see some benchmarks.
-
-
it will be ~2gbps IMO...
-
They can say all they want with the theoretical speed, but in real life performance is where it needs to be rated obviously.
I think it might only be on the Macbook Pro for a little while, to test in real life situations. Then after they see how it does, I'm sure it will be on the Macbook.
Time will tell.
