For MBP, would it void the warranty if I tried upgrading my hard drive... would apple store peeps would help me install it? if they do, would it still voids the warranty?

Apple is authorized to upgrade the MBP harddrive because it requires opening the entire top of the laptop. If you did it yourself.. yes it will void the warranty

Do you have to pay them for labor to upgrade the hard drive?

in Germany you pay around 120$ to get a HD installed... that is labour only!
So I did it myself. No problem!

If you are handy with electronics and you don't damage anything, chances are that nobody would ever ask if you have a problem with the device and send it in for repairs that had nothing to do with the hard disc!

Look for a local authorized apple tech on the apple site. They will be able to upgrade the HD for you without voiding your warranty. Cost varies between different stores.

The place I called said they would do it for $60 CAD, so it doesn't have to break the bank.
