I have had my macbook unibody since it was first launched in the fall of 2008 and have been really satisfied with it until recently. It has noticeably become less responsive when opening applications or for instance flash videos.

Considering the fact that I want to buy a new Macbook Pro in the summer/fall of 2012, I would like to get some advice:

I am thinking of upgrading the memory from 2 x 1GB 1067mhz DDR3 to 2 x 2GB to deal with the slow responsiveness or should I go for 2 x 4GB, which could put into my to-buy Macbook, next year? And should I go for PC-3 8500 or 10600?

Additionally, I want to upgrade the hard disk.. Again, knowing that I am going to buy a new macbook, is it worth it buying a Seagate Momentus XT (hybrid) or should I simply go for a normal hard disk?

First thing I would try would be to do a wipe and reinstall to see if it gets a bit faster. Other than that, I think a new HD (7200 rpm or an SSD) would make the computer a bit more responsive. I don't know anything firsthand about the XT drives so I can't say whether it is a good by or not. And secondly, I think 2x2 would be enough for a memory upgrade. No idea what 2012 brings and it may be that the computer you buy then won't be able to use the ram you buy today. And most probably, ram in the 4 gb size will be even cheaper then.
