    Hey everybody.

I have the white 2.16 GHz MacBook, with the 120GB HD..

What I want to do now, is to upgrade the HD..

I would like a 250 GB, 7200 rpm HD, but what should I get??
Can I just by any 250 / 7200 drive out there, or shall I look for some special specs??

I will be in Minneapolis over Christmas, so if you guys now a great place to buy i the Minneaplois area, please let me know..

    (I hope it made sense?!)

Best Regards and thanks in advance,

    /Sander

As far as size goes, it has to be a 2.5" laptop drive. MacBooks also use SATA drives. That's about all you have to look for.

    I think you're a little confused.

The largest 7200RPM hard disk for notebooks is 200GB from Hitachi.
The largest 5400RPM hard disk for notebooks is 250GB/320GB* from Western Digital, Seagate/Toshiba*.

I'd recommend Hitachi for 7200RPM hard disks, Western Digital for 5400RPM hard disks.

FWIW, The larger 250GB and 320GB 5400rpm drives are pretty fast. They have high platter density and use perpendicular recording. They bench very competitively with 7200rpm drives.

The 7k200 is the fastest drive of course, with its 16MB cache, so, that's a little unfair. And Scorpio looks like one of the slower 5400rpm drives. Look through all the charts (not just large sequential reads), the 5400rpm drives are fairly close in quite a few of them.

In general though, the scene is not that bad. These current 5400rpm drives are close enough to the current 7200rpm drives for most people, and they are about as fast as the previous generations 60GB and 100GB 7200rpm drives.
