    Hey guys,
I am very happy with my new MBP, but right now I am trying to update my Vista video drivers. I realize that the laptopvideo or whatever it is called has drivers. Can someone more knowledgeable run me through a quick guide as to how to update my graphics drivers in windows for my 8600gt? Thank you, this would be a big help. Currently I am using the 101.3 or something similar, whatever comes with bootcamp 1.3 Thank you as always! :)

LaptopVideo2Go information should be added to that Mac Users sticky. Its a common question.

He just feels this way as others tend to that that MBP users that install Windows on their Macs and don't use OS X should be posting their Windows questions on the Windows forum. Even though it's Apple hardware the question is Windows related only and not hardware related so it should be posted in the Windows forum.
StormEffect was nice enough to help but it would have made more sense to post in the Windows section.

Well in all honesty i don't see what people's problems are. Yes you are mac zealots but Apple expressly went to the trouble of allowing it's customers to choose which os to install and, due to the EFI, the install process is more involved and complicated. It is natural that people will need/want to ask questions pertaining to this and the best place to ask IS the mac forum not the windows forum. A reasonable number of people have had problems installing new drivers over/replacing the boot camp ones. If you are finding the repeated asking of similar questions annoying then get the answers in one of the stickies at the top of the forum.

Moreover, all it takes to answer most of these questions is a simple 2 -3 line answer. You are participating in an online 'discussion' forum. Get off your high horse.

Aside from your unnecessary remark at the end I would absolutely agree with you accept for one thing, the OP is asking not for bootcamp drivers for his Windows installation, he is asking about updating Vista drivers which IS a Windows specific question. Understand what's going on B 4 you jump all over other posters responses.

Actually i really enjoyed typing that last remark so :)

Well i did read, he was asking how to update the drivers from the pre supplied ones that come with bootcamp (101.something) and that is where i have read people saying that things went wrong where as on thier other laptops it wasn't a problem so i still stand by what i said. It is perfectly valid to ask for help in the mac forum as it is a mac related question.

Don't you love arguing on the net!

My main point was that people do not read or search for answers before creating new threads that are ultimately redundant and unnecessary. Everyone else made valid points too and my comments are not solely directed at the original poster.

Also, there have been issues with laptopvideo2go's ForceWare Drivers on the MBP. I've personally had problems with the 158.xx drivers; got Infinite Loop errors. Boot Camp 1.3 uses ForceWare 101.34 and you should probably only update if you run into problems. If you want confirmation on working Drivers then I can second StormEffect's first post with links to 162.18 Drivers; they work for me.

Hey :) First i want to appologize. It was bought to my attention that my remarks were taken as trying to pick a fight and they were not intended to.

Yes i have had a similar problem to what you describe. I am trying some different combos of drivers now to see what comes out best but there is something about the mpb hardware that likes to spit the dummy when drivers are changed from the bootcamp ones.

edit: a good reason to be updateing the drivers is for gaming. nvidia is renouned for releasing early subpar drivers and then a month later providing ones with nice performance boosts. God talking of it reminds me of the 8800 vista drivers back in jan.... oh good god

Hey, look on an even brighter side! Being on the far end of driver releases, this makes my Geforce 2 MX 400 driver so mature it should be getting 8 or 9 thousand in 3DMark06!

My recent foray into benchmarking that card ended in disaster, so we will never know the true power of the Geforce 2.

    :(

i agree that this is really a windows question. it doesn't matter that you had boot camp drivers before- they are just drivers.

you uninstall the old one, install the new one, using the windows process entirely.

however, for someone who doesn't know much about drivers, the real underlying question might have been "do you use boot camp to update the drivers" or "can i update the drivers"... something like that. and the fact of the matter is that some of those drivers don't work properly; whether that is due to incompatibility with mac hardware or a more universal thing with the 8600m gt gpu is anyone's guess.

still- the instructions for driver installation can be found on www.laptopvideo2go.com

verdict: slapped on the wrists, but otherwise pardoned.

Why is everyone getting the drivers from laptopvideo2go? Can I not use the drivers from nvidia's site on a mbp or are laptopvideo2go drivers better. Can someone clue me in please?

There are no mobile graphics drivers on Nvidia's website. Try downloading and installing one of the ones of their website, it'll give you an error. Laptopvideo2go.com modifies those drivers so they include the mobile cards in their "acceptable card" database. Nvidia doesn't enable it automatically because they don't know how all of the different mobile cards will react.
