is updating/upgrading VLC media player just require you to drag and drop the newer version of VLC onto the Application folder and overwrite (replace) the older VLC with the newer up-to-date version?

no prior uninstallation of the old version neccesary?

    thanks

Unless you want to remove all your previous VLC settings, you don't need to do anything other than replacing the app file.

i personally just replace the old version with the newer version onto the application folder.

but im just wondering if this is the proper way of doing it as it is moving from version 8.x to version 9.x

i dont want VLC to create 2 seperate preference file/s. version 8.x and version 9.x

how would you update or upgrade your VLC?

I just remove the previous version, and then add the new one onto the application folder

    cheers ...

i usually use appzapper to remove the program then do a fresh install, unless if it is a program the updates itself.
