I had a Dell E1505 before my MacBook and used a Targus Cooling Pad with it that also served as a USB hub. The Dell has alot of vents on the bottom and the cooling pad worked well but now that I have the uMB is there any reason to have the cooling pad even on as I question how effective it is? On top of that, is it even needed?

It will help as the body is metallic. However it wont be as effective as the Dell.

    Hey Brain,

I actually have a cooling pad for my 13" Macbook Pro and it does work.

It is dual fans and it blows against the bottom of the chassis. The Unibody may not have vents, but how it works is that you cool the aluminum and then the aluminum cools everything else.

Remember, how things heat up and cool down aren't just transfered by air, it can be transferred by physical touch or water. This is how cooling works.

if you have the targus pad with USB hub that I have.. it works good for a stand and a USB hub... the fans in it suck. doing the same thing, on or off, it wont cool my MBP by even 1 extra degree.

Like MrX8503 said, when MBP heats up, the whole body acts as a massive heat sink...
