Hey all, this is a minor issue but I wanted to get it checked out. The glass touchpad on my new MBP is a bit uneven. The surface itself is flat, but the left side sits a bit lower than the right side, as if the whole touchpad is tilted to the left. The right side is flush with the surrounding aluminum, but the left side is maybe .5mm lower. Is this normal?

Probably normal, since the whole touch pad moves, it's going to be hard to have it even all the way around.

I have the same problem. But it doesnt even matter so much to ask for a replacement.

I just check mine with a vernier caliper , and the difference is negligible, I have noticed that the direction of the light can make one side look slighting deeper than the other , but i think this i caused by a shadow.

If you put your hands either side of the touch-pad so that the palms face each other so that they block out any side light and look straight down , the touch pad looks perfect.

It still looks a little off, even with blocking the light. I don't care as much about looks as the feel, but I probably won't ask for a replacement since it seems normal for it to be off by a bit. I might ask about it when I get to a college (there is an Apple Store there!!), but if they don't offer to replace it I won't be too finicky.

If it is really obvious then just leave it for now. Ask for a touchpad replacement later. That way if you have any discoloring due to wear on the actual keyboard itself you get it replaced as well. The entire top half of the bottom is a single unit.

I say get it checked out as soon as possible, if you don't have Applecare and if/when it runs out of warranty and the problem gets worse then you decide to fix it, Apple could charge you a pretty hefty fee to do so
