    Hello,

When I run bootcamp and WinXP I undervolt my CPU with RMclock to get more battery life. It shows good results with less heat and more run time.

I found that coolbook.se is a similar program for OSX. However it only works for the pre Santa Rosa MBPs. Anybody know of any program to do this for the Santa Rosa books?

    thanks

I just checked the homepage of coolbook and it now says that the Santa Rosa CPUs are only "only partially supported". Atleast it is improving, few days ago it said unsupported. I really want to undervolt my CPU. It works so great in windows. I would even be willing to pay for it in OS X. But I wont buy coolbook yet untill someone can confirm it works. Anybody try it? http://www.coolbook.se/CoolBook.html

What settings do you use in RMclock and what kind of thermal/battery improvement do you get?

I use windows quite alot so it would be great if I could get some decent power management going.

Do you experience any stability issues/performance lag? I would assume in terms of performance, you could underclock considerably before feeling much impact on performance for day to day tasks. But I'm always concerned with stability.

    Thanks

Also, you might want to try asking in one of the Mac centric forums like Mac Rumours (if you haven't already).

Yeah I use RMclock. Mostly to keep cool for the macbook pro. It is a few degrees cooler for sure. I only game in windows so i never check battery (I take the battery out before I game). But I have another laptop . A IBM T60 core duo and it gains about 15-20% battery life when I underclock. normal runtime is about 3.5 hours and when underclocking I get over 4.

I can run the Macbook pro at the minium settings that RMclock lets me set. Even at 2.2ghz it is not a problem. But I set it 4 steps up on voltage just to be save. It is still alot lower then the voltage before and I feel better knowing I am not risking anything by running at the minium.

    3) The CPU of the "Santa Rosa" / LED MacBook Pro can be read and controlled using CoolBook, and the maximum power consumption may be reduced.
There is however an issue, making this model consume more power running in idle battery mode with CoolBook activated.
CoolBook is therefore not recommended for usage with this model.

that is quoted from the coolbook manual.

seeing as lowering your power draw at idle is way more important than lowering your power draw under load (generally, if your goal is to increase battery life) - you should wait until they release a fix.
