    Hello,

I'll want to get a new laptop before starting Uni this Fall...and I definitely want to get a Mac. I really like the OS. I just wish they made the Macbook in a smaller form factor...it seems to be too big to carry around all the time. Why don't they bring back a model similar in size to a 12" PB?

There was a rumor about there being a 12" ultraportable version of the MacBook Pro, but nothing about the MB. Also, thats a rumor, so you can only put so much faith in it.

It's not really a big jump between 12" and 13", so if you find the 13" too hard to carry around, I don't know how you'll cope with 12".

Size is probably not the biggest factor, but more weight. The MB while only 13.3" is heavy for its size.

I think there will eventually be a 12" MBP, it just may take a little while.

Yeah, eventually it will come, but when lol. The macbook is pretty heavy for its size, and eventhough it still actually seems smaller than my 700m, laptops like the x41 seem way smaller.

I have both the Macbook and a Thinkpad X30. Holding the X30 and the Macbook is like night and day. I still like my Macbook more though. :)

The MB is a pound too heavy for its size. It would be alright if it was at least under 5lbs, but to truly compete with the Asus Z35 and XPS M1210 in terms of weight, it needs too be at minimum .75lbs lighter. Its a pity that the MB is a pound heavier than one expects, unlike the MBP which is a pound lighter than one expects (and almost the same weight as the MB).

I wonder what contributes to most of the Macbook's weight. The SuperDrive?

I'd love to see them release a 11.1" Macbook or Pro, I know its small for many but that is the perfect size for me.

No, it is the plastic casing. The weight of the SuperDrive and ComboDrive models are very similar. If you look at the very similar Sony C series, you will notice that it has plastic construction and also weighs above 5lbs.

I want iPods and iTunes to support OGG/Vorbis

what kills me is that they don't even have to license the format, and it's not supported.

I'd love a more portable machine...but when the Fall comes and I want to buy a new laptop, if one is not out, I don't know if I'll go for the macbook, or a PC. I really love Mac OS X though, and would hate to give it up for something lighter/smaller.

You can install OSX on PCs, though its no where near as easy as with Apple's Bootcamp and running Windows on Macs but theres a lot of dedicated users and resources to running OSX on PCs.

I too would love a 12" mbp, that would probablly be the only thing that would get me to sell my thinkpad.

Apple probably wont release one because it might kill the MB sales.

true... putting a dedicated graphics card in would probably do a number on battery life, not to mention potential heat issues in such a small form factor. so you don't even have that to differentiate the models, and I don't think you can justify a significant price jump for just a CPU upgrade.

But that was the case with the previous ibook and powerbook.

I'd love to see an 11.1" Macbook, though most will be turned off by the small size but I think its the perfect complement to the 13.3" current Macbook, 12.1" to me seems not enough of a change from the current Macbook. Well, maybe they'll release a 12.1" Macbook Pro then.
