Last night I installed UT2K4 on my MBP (SR, Leopard). The game is installed on OS X and not on Windows. Anyway, I installed the two patches 3369 and 3369.2 as recommended. The game is fast and looks good, but I have an annoying problem with the sound that makes the game unplayable.

When someone uses a vehicle in the game, all I can hear is one "constant" vehicle sound. For example, I can't hear if the bender is acclerating or breaking, I can't tell if the vehicle is coming closer or going away (same monotonous sound), and I can't even tell from which direction the sound is coming from. I wear a headset and rely on spotting movement by the sound it makes.

I tried to look for an answer from the bowels of the Internet. There were few mentions (from year 2004, I think) that I should replace "openal.dylib" with another one. I did this, but after that I couldn't hear anything at all.

If someone is still playing this old game and especially the Mac version of it, how is your sound? How did you fix this problem? If the sound is good for you, could you send me the "openal.dylib" file you are using?
