A couple days ago I had decided I wanted to get a MBP. Today, im not so sure. I will be using it mostly for school work. The only PC game i play is WoW. The rest of the games I play are console games. Will i notice that much of a difference with the 2.16ghz Macbook compared to the 2.2ghz SR Macbook Pro?

From my knowledge in computers, and this may be wrong, but the Processor can only run as fast as the ram. So if the processor is an 800mhz and the ram is 667mhz, the processor will really only run at 667 mhz. I think that is correct. So right now with the memory that is available would it be pointless to buy a MBP? I realize the MBP has the dedicated graphics chip and stuff with it, but if WoW is the only game i play should i just get a Macbook?. Will the Macbook be ok to run video and picture editing software, and watch movies on without a hitch?

Not to mention the Macbook is $500 cheaper than the MBP.

The MacBook will run video and photo eidting without a problem. DVD watching is absolutely not a problem. The only thing you might want to consider is the MacBook's resolution is 1280x800, a little small for constant Photoshop usage, especially for larger works. Power wise, the MacBook can handle these tasks very well.

The biggest differences you'll notice between the first Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro and the SR MacBook Pro is the LED screen and the NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT.

I'd say if you mostly play console games, get a MacBook. It is almost as powerful as the MBP, but lacks a graphics card (and Expresscard slot), but that's about it, and is cheaper than the MBP by quite a bit.

About how long do you think the Macbook should last? 3 yrs? 5 yrs?

Well, depends on how you consider "lasting". In terms of running the OS, the MacBook will last a long time...Mac OS X is not as resource-draining as Vista became, there are 5-year-old Macs that can still run Mac OS X Tiger fine.

The current MacBook is pretty future-proof right now...the Core 2 Duo chips are the latest (well, not really the latest considering there's Santa Rosa chips out now), and they're 64-bit chips, helping for future applications that run on 64-bit. There's room to add more RAM, and the hard drive can be upgraded later on.

I'd say if you don't absolutely need the latest applications running at top speed, the MacBook will last you a good 3-4 years. If you plan on keeping it that long, I highly recommend you get the AppleCare Protection Plan.

Do u know how well it will run WoW on medium to High Settings. Its a 3+ year old game so the graphics are not top notch.

Oddly enough one of the biggest reasons I want a MBP is because of GarageBand... and both games I play run on it (WoW and Second Life).
Oh, it also doesn't look stupid :p

get a MacBook, SR MBP's GPU more than you need.

People might say that it doesn't hurt to have a good GPU, but keep in mind that paying the $600 or so price difference hurts :)

Yea i know, it has soooo many cool features. Everytime I start looking at the Black Macbook i just keep hearing the MBP just calling me.

I dont think im gonna be able to decide until i get to the store and play with them both. But whatever i buy im going to buy a black iPod to go with it. I have a Zune right now but i cant pass up the $50 iPod deal. Plus, u gotta match.

sounds like you will never be 100% happy with a macbook, save yourself a second trip...in the end you will end up with the pro.lol
