I recently ran into some trouble playing avi and divx files. Even if the files are in divx format it wont play using the divx player or it will take a very long time to load and the same thing with avi files in quicktime. Can someone help me. Prior to this i've been able to run files in these formats just fine. Just recently have i encountered these problems which forced me to uninstall and reinstall quicktime. However VLC works fine across all formats i just prefer using quicktime. Can I please get some help with these issues

    1. Find an extension to play avi files in quicktime
    2. Answer why the divx and avi files take so long to load.
    3. Why players often say my files are corrupted.

Thanks alot for any and all feedback you can give me!!

Get Perian. It lets you play lots of different formats in Quicktime.

If the OP is using OSX, which I'm assuming he is cause its in the OSX thread, that advice doesn't really help.

Like I said, try perian, should let you watch most types of video in quicktime.

I use both Perian and Flip4Mac to try and cover most of my bases and I am very happy with the video performance with no major lockups. Saying that I do get the odd error report from VLC but I just dismiss them and it keeps on going. I have never been a fan of the Divx player at all.

To the OP, just wondering, are you playing the files from your internal HDD or an external drive. Wondering if its an external that may be in need of some tender loving care from Disk Utility to scan over and fix. Or did you install any video plugins for browsers than may be trying to access when you play a file (I'm shooting blind on that one but just thought i'd put it out there).

I was actually running the movies from the external hard drive, but i've tried transferring the file to the hard drive on the mac, but i get the same slow load times. I installed perian and i'm getting the same effect

I ran the disk utility on the external and that cleared everything up! Thanks a lot for the feedback jurisprudence as well as everyone else.
